MSI GT83VR-6RF-64SR451
The latest GT83VR is built to capture the heart of gamers. Codenamed the “Titan”, it is powered by the latest GeForce GTX 10 series graphics. The GT83VR casts an imposing figure at first sight in particular with its prominent air vents at the back of the machine. The monstrous-racing design shouts 'Gaming' the moment it is turned on. Its dimensions measure 458 x 339 x 42~69 mm and it weighs a hefty 5.5 kg (with battery). Its chunkiness reigns over the likes of Acer’s Predator Series or even its rival sibling, the GT72VR. The keyboard which is illuminated with red backlight emits a menacing red glow under dim conditions. The silver lining printed keys are capable of being subject to long-term wear and tear. It boasts a whooping 18.4-inch FHD IPS display, which delivers true-to-life viewing experience. With the True Color technology and the True Color profile, colors are displayed in higher accuracy. Sound quality is equally superb as it is enhanced with Sound by Dynaudio 4 + 1 Speaker System, which offers high definition sound technology. Similar to the GT72VR, the Titan is built VR Technology-ready. With the one-click VR solution, gamers can immerse themselves in a mind-blowing virtual reality, gaming experience. Powered by the latest 6th generation Intel Core i7 processors, the capacity of the GT83VR to play demanding games is top-notch. It supports up to 64 GB DDR4 RAM and comes with a 1 TB HDD and a 512 GB SSD. The Killer DoubleShot Pro technology, a software enhancement in all MSI gaming laptops, kills out unnecessary performance lags. Again MSI outperforms its rivals in the temperature control technology on the Titan. Users may also opt for easy overclocking with the MSI SHIFT Technology. The exclusive SHIFT Technology pushes the system clock speeds to the extreme while minimizing noise and temperature. The ability to keep the machine exceptionally cool is boosted by triple fans with 15 heat pipes. The Titan is also packed with connectivity options, which include six USB 3.0 /3.1 gen. 1 ports, a USB 3.1 gen. 2 port, an HDMI port, two DisplayPorts, a Kensington Lock, and a card reader. Networking is enabled both by WiFi and Bluetooth. It comes pre-installed with Windows 10 Home. In a clash of the titans, the GT83VR certainly emerges fast and powerful albeit with a steep price tag. Its dimensions and weight certainly are not suitable for portability, but if for some reason a 18.4" screen laptop is needed, there aren't many laptops that can beat the MSI GT83VR-6RF-64SR451. It is certainly a beastly gaming machine. Hands-on article by Jagadisa RajarathnamSpecifications

The latest MSI Titan SLI is deeply impressive. However, it is clear the dual GTX 1080 GPUs have pushed the air cooling system to its limits. While the coolers have little trouble keeping the hardware below 90 degrees they can only do this by spinning the turbines at quite a rate and the consequence is noise. Lots of noise. As a portable solution, the Titan makes better sense than Asus GX800VH. But even so, it is big and heavy and you need to lug two large power bricks wherever you go.

Nvidia has reinvigorated the high-end laptop scene with the launch of its GeForce GTX 1080, GTX 1070 and GTX 1060 mobile GPUs. Offering practically the full might of their add-in-card counterparts, the new GeForce range blurs the line between desktop and mobile gaming.

MSI GT83VR Titan isn’t for the masses. MSI GT83VR Titan is more like “Look what we can do”. We’re sure that the folks at MSI don’t think that GT83VR will become a great hit – its purpose is just to show that they have one of the best engineers out there and they can lead the market. MSI GT83VR Titan SLI has unmatchable performance (for a notebook) and we know that even though the price/performance ratio is far from the best, there will be many users who have more than enough money and just want to have the fastest notebook on the market. In case you’re one of them, the machine is great. GT83VR Titan has the best cooling system we’ve ever tested and really takes advantage of the pair of GTX 1070s / 1080s and the Core i7-6820HK processor.

As for the gaming performance, the MSI GT83VR 6RF Titan SLI’s dual GPUs were able to almost keep up with the desktop cards with just a difference of 6-8fps on average (Single GPU, 1080p). But for SLI benchmarks, the desktop cards again fared ahead on 1080p resolution. We know these cards are much more capable for higher resolutions. Interestingly, the GTX 1080s on the MSI GT83VR 6RF Titan SLI performed more or less the same as the desktop cards for 4K resolutions (SLI mode).

The MSI GT83VR Titan SLI isn't a gaming laptop, it is a monstrously powerful compact gaming desktop that is meant for serious gamers who do not want to be meddled with a wide selection of peripherals, yet wanting the flexibility to transport it around and enjoy desktop class performance whenever they go, it shows impressive performance in every dimension and you will definitely not miss using a desktop. The GT83 will cost you RM20,999, which isn't exactly a friendly price tag for most people out there, but considering that you get to have these powerful hardware in a laptop form factor, I would have to say that the GT83 is pretty much unrivalled and it is a reasonable price tag to pay for.

The ‘Titan’ moniker is iconic in the world of technology – Nvidia have used it to great effect for many years now and after MSI released their first Titan laptop back in 2014, the name has become synonymous with cutting edge hardware. My colleague Leo has already taken a look at the GT83VR 6RF for the KitGuru TV channel, but today I analyse it in more detail for the main site. This laptop features a massive 18.4 FHD inch panel, 64GB of DDR4 memory, full mechanical keyboard, Core i7 6920HQ and dual Nvidia GTX 1080’s running in SLi.

It might be the world’s most powerful gaming laptop, yet the choice of a low resolution, low refresh rate display is puzzling to say the least. If all you care about is stratospheric frame rates, then it’s a fine solution, but it seems a shame to waste all that horsepower on a HD resolution. Hopefully the next version has a 2560 x 1440, 120Hz panel at the least.

MSI GT83VR 7RF-206 Titan SLI
The MSI GT83VR 7RF-206 Titan SLI is the world's first gaming laptop to feature a keyboard with Cherry MX Speed Switches for faster fragging. This laptop is also one of the first gaming rigs to ship with Intel's 7th-generation Kaby Lake processor. It even packs dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs in the SLI configuration. Because these are 10-Series GPUs, it's a given that the Titan is VR-ready. As for storage, the laptop packs a 512GB PCI-e SSD in a Super-RAID-4 configuration and a 1TB 7,200-rpm hard drive that is capable of duplicating 4.97 GB of multimedia files in 5 seconds. The Titan is just as big as it is beautiful. Clad in brushed aluminum, the 13.1-pound, 16.9 x 12.4 x 1.7~2.5-inch rig cuts an imposing, desk-monopolizing figure. The front of the laptop features an inviting sheen of the notebook's aluminum lid, which is accented with a pair of glowing red darts, a backlit dragon sigil, and a gleaming chrome MSI label. The rear vents are rimmed in red aluminum and have an alluring glow. Opening the lid reveals a large mechanical keyboard and a digital touch/number pad occupying the space where users would normally find a palm rest. That just leaves the large dragon-etched panel at the top. As cool as it looks, it is not simply for show. Users can remove this piece to access the RAM and solid-state drives.
MSI has swapped the Titan's Cherry MX Brown switches on the mechanical keyboard for Cherry Speed Silver switches, making it the first and only gaming laptop with this feature. Cherry claims these switches are shallower than others, so that gamers don't have to press down as hard to shoot or move. The Speed Silver switches have 3.4 mm of travel, which is a little deeper than the 3.1-mm Brown switches. The laptop features an 18.4-inch, 1920 x 1080 IPS display, which serves up plenty of vivid hues and crisp detail. The Titan's eye-catching display is a result of its ability to reproduce 114 percent of the sRGB gamut. However, in terms of brightness, the panel only manages to average 295 nits. As for battery life, dual-wielding GPUs require a lot of power. It was not surprising to find that the Titan can only last a little more than 2 hours. Booming bass and warm, clear mids and highs await from the Titan's powerful Dynaudio speakers and bottom-mounted subwoofer. The speakers of this laptop deliver crisp cymbals, deep lows and lilting vocals on upbeat tracks. The notebook also includes the software Nahimic 2, which allows users to toggle through its many presets, namely Music, Comm, Movie, Shooter, Strategy, Role Play, and Racing. The laptop is furthermore overflowing with ports and slots. This includes 5 USB-3.0 ports, a full-size HDMI port, a Thunderbolt 3 port, and even a DisplayPort. The MSI GT83VR 7RF-206 Titan SLI is as hardcore as it can get for a gaming laptop. There are not many competitors in the market. The only let-down are its relatively low screen resolution and brightness.

A study in what is possible. With the 18-inch GT83VR 7RF, the gaming expert MSI shows what is currently technically possible (in terms of performance) in the notebook segment. Intel's most powerful mobile Kaby Lake processor is accompanied by two Pascal GPUs. However, the price is as extreme as the speed: over 5000 Euros (~$5600) makes the GT83VR 7RF an expensive toy for enthusiasts.

The GT83VR Titan is an upgrade over the original GT80 Titan. The newer components are faster, and the excellent chassis has stayed the same, but the competition, even from MSI’s own gaming laptops, has simply moved quicker than this 18.4-inch behemoth could keep up with, and that’s a shame, because it’s still a well-built, powerful system. It just needs a better display to justify the price tag.

The biggest issue that will stop most people from buying the GT83VR is price. This laptop starts at $4,400 for a base model without an SSD, and to do this laptop justice with proper fast storage, you’ll need to spend more like $4,800. That’s a lot of money to spend on a single system, putting the GT83VR out of the reach of most consumers. We'd have found the price more palatable if a 4K or G-Sync display would have been part of the package. But ultimately, if you want the best possible hardware in a laptop form factor, I guess you need to pay a hefty premium.

In essence, to fully appreciate the GT83VR’s Titan SLI graphics cards, you’ll need to hook it up to a 4K display or a whole brace of 1080p ones. That rather defeats the purpose of getting a notebook by doing that, since it’s no longer a self-contained package once you plug in a display. This is made gawkier by the fact that the GT83VR is so big—you’ll need to mount your monitor up rather high to see over the GT83VR’s built-in display, or use the laptop with the screen folded shut and with an external keyboard and mouse. (In other words, just like a laptop-shaped conventional desktop.)

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
