CES 2023 | MSI Cyborg 15, Thin GF63 and Katana 15 series to start with the new RTX 4050 from US$999
MSI has introduced the new Cyborg 15 A12V alongside more established lines such as the latest Raider and Stealth laptops today (January 4, 2023) in Las Vegas. Then again, it may yet stand out with its new Translucent Black finish to go with its simply Blue backlit keyboard.
Therefore, with its 15.6-inch 144Hz IPS display, it could prove a challenge to other new machines such as those of the Asus TUF line. Then again, a decision to buy one might be complicated by the arrival of the latest 15-inch entries to the Katana family (with a new and streamlined naming scheme to boot).
Those new SKUs have been introduced with the exact same displays, with the option of the Intel Core i7-13620H, whereas the Cyborg is left on either the i5-12450H or i7-12650H.
Accordingly, the base model Katana 15 and Cyborg 15 are slated to start at the same price via channels such as Best Buy: US$999. Then again, the former has a wider range with choices between the RTX 4050, 4060 or 4070 (with 8K-capable HDMI 2.1 ports whereas the Cyborg makes do with 4K-only), whereas the latter only has the RTX 4050 options.
However, in the case of the Katana, it drops back to the older i5-12450H or i7-12650H in more expensive SKUs; then again, some have up to 32GB of RAM whereas the Cyborg starts with 8GB. Otherwise, both kind of 15.6-inch gaming laptop have similar specs, Wi-Fi 6 and a single USB type-C port with DisplayPort 1.4 included.
Finally, the new 16GB RAM Thin GF63 will launch with the same display, CPU, graphics and ports as the Cyborg 15, albeit with a red keyboard, for the same starting price.
MSI's new affordable RTX 4050 laptops can be pre-ordered from February 1, 2023, or February 14 for their RTX4060-70 counterparts, with on-shelf availability planned for February 8 and 22 respectively.
