The EREV (or E-REV) is a car with a conventional internal combustion engine augmented with electric motors to optimize its range per fuel stop.
In the case of the new Luxeed R7 Ultra AWD, the system consists of a 1.5T 4-cylinder engine boosted by dual Huawei DriveONE motors (rated for 155 kilowatts (kW, equivalent to 208 horsepower (hp) and 227kW (304 hp) to the front and rear respectively to drive the 'range' of its 67 liter (l) tank to as much as 1,551 kilometers (km, or ~964 miles).
It is joined by the Luxeed R7 Max RWD on its launch, which is rated to go for up to 1,673km or ~1,039 miles on a full tank. The rear-wheel drive model (which, obviously, just has the 227kW electric motor) is also rated for a 0-100km per hour (or 0-~62 mile per hour) time of just 4.9 seconds, compared to 7.4 seconds in its AWD silbing.
The new Luxeed R7 models are also the latest cars developed under Huawei's Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) initiative, which confers the OEM's 400 volt (V) Tuling platform and 53.4 kW-hour (kWh) battery rated to charge from 20% to 80% in just 15 minutes.
The R7 Max RWD and Ultra AWD are also equipped with Huawei Qiankun driver assistance systems and HarmonyOS 4 for a dashboard boasting a 15.6-inch centre console screen.
Accordingly, Huawei and Chery tout the new cars as some of the smartest, smoothest and most powerful EREVs on Chinese roads. They start at 299,800 yuan (~$41,000) for the Max RWD and 319,800 yuan (~$44,000) for the Ultra AWD.
