Loewe multi.room amp combines 1200 watt amplifier with compact streaming system
The latest amplifier from Loewe measures just 27 x 27 x 8 cm, making the device similar in size to a NAD M10 V2. However, Loewe advertises a much higher power output of 1200 watts instead of the 300 watts of its more expensive competitor, whereby this is the short-term peak power at an impedance of 4 ohms. The sine power at 8 ohms is 300 watts - still considerable for a device of this size.
The class D amplifier acitively powers 2.0 stereo speakers, although it is possible to connect an additional active subwoofer. In addition to its strong powerful sound, the multi.room amp also aims to impress with its versatility, as the amplifier can be integrated into the home network via Wi-Fi 5 or Ethernet in addition to numerous connections such as RCA and HDMI ARC, allowing it to function as a streamer.
The multi.room amp supports Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect and DTS Play-Fi, among others, but important services are missing from this list, including Tidal and Roon, so Loewe can't quite keep up with the streaming capabilities of a BluOS streamer. On the other hand, the multi.room amp has a simple design with buttons on the front to control playback and a rather aggressive price tag in view of the features.
Price and availability
The Loewe multi.room amp is scheduled to be launched this month at a RRP of EUR 999. This makes the amplifier more expensive than the Bluesound Powernode Edge or the Bose Music Amplifier, but considerably more powerful. As for the US, there are no plans to release it there time of writing.
