Legacy Teslas get Adaptive High Beams update as more countries and matrix headlight features are on tap
Tesla's head of vehicle engineering Lars Moravy tipped that the Adaptive High Beams mode is coming to more regions, eventually including the US, and there will be more such new features added to its vehicles with matrix headlights.
Tesla 2024.8.3 update features
- Adaptive High Beams for Model Y/3/S/X
- One-Time Charge Limit
Tesla just flipped the switch on the Adaptive High Beams feature for all of its cars, including the bestselling Model Y and the legacy Model 3 batches that come with matrix headlights. The performance Model S and Model X will also get the goods as soon as the Tesla's 2024.8.3 software update hits the screen on their dashboard in Europe.
Adaptive headlights
Lars congratulated everyone involved in the certification battle with the European regulators who at least have an established procedure for approving adaptive high beams with matrix headlights that have been a staple on local premium cars there for a while.
"More regions and features to follow as we get necessary certifications," added Lars, raising hopes that Tesla is involved in a similar regulatory battle on this side of the pond where the US Federal Motor vehicle Safety Standard 108 is much stricter.
Last month, Tesla's vehicle engineering chief informed that the team has filed the Adaptive High Beams feature approval paperwork in Europe and China, and it barely took 3 weeks to start rolling out the 2024.8.3 update with the feature.
One-Time Charge Limit
Apart from lighting up the adaptive matrix headlights option, Tesla also brought a small but welcome addition to the ease of use while heading for a road trip.
With the so-called One-Time Charge Limit option baked into the 2024.8.3 update, Tesla owners will be offered to make reversal to their previous charging limit automatic.
"This option appears when you increase the Charge Limit above the daily driving recommendation," says Tesla. When the driver picks it and is then done with their road trip, their usual daily charge limit will kick back in automatically lest they forget to revert to it.
Adaptive headlights got activated on my Model 3 «Highland» after a recent software update. This video shows it in action ???? The cars I met didn’t seem annoyed so the lights seems to work well for them as well as for me ???? @tesla pic.twitter.com/ieTlT6Ei5S
