Rumour | Leaker fuels speculation that the OnePlus 8 Pro could support wireless charging
In recent years, OnePlus has been pivoting away from its origins. While the company started with the US$299 OnePlus One, it has gradually been increasing prices with each new release, culminating in the US$899.99 OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren. We use this as an example here because OnePlus does not sell the regular OnePlus 7T Pro in the US.
Every passing year has brought new features too, with the company being one of the first OEMs to bring high-refresh-rate displays to the mainstream. OnePlus champions its fast charging too, now on its third name of Warp Charge 30T. Arguably, the speed of Warp Charge, previously Dash Charge, has precluded the need for wireless charging capabilities in OnePlus handsets. While wireless charging can be more convenient than wired charging, assuming you do not want to use your device while it is charging, the gulf in charging speeds has grown exponentially since the likes of the Lumia 930.
However, a new rumour from Max J of All About Samsung implies that OnePlus could be bringing wireless charging capabilities to the OnePlus 8 Pro. Tweeting simply "Charge like a pro", the rumour tallies with @OnLeaks, who claimed something similar when publishing his recent OnePlus 8 renders.
OnePlus is yet confirm this rumour, but apparently only the Pro model will feature wireless charging capabilities. Cynically, bringing wireless charging to its next flagship would allow OnePlus to monetise the technology in the form of wireless charging pads. Would you even use a wireless charger when you have 30 W plus wired charging on tap?
