Kenko Tokina has unveiled the KR-019CR cassette recorder designed to look and work like a traditional portable unit, updated with the ability to export tapes to MP3 files.
The KR-019CR has a built-in handle and 3-watt speaker with a 76 mm driver. Users can also listen to tapes using 3.5 mm headphones. Music and voice recordings can be made using the built-in microphone onto tapes.
Tapes can be converted to MP3 files and saved on flash memory. The unit supports microSDHC Class 4 to 10 cards between 4 GB and 32 GB in size, microSDXC Class 10 cards between 64 GB and 128 GB, and USB Type-A flash drives up to 128 GB in size. Flash memory must be formatted in FAT32. MP3 files on flash memory can also be copied to tape or played back.
The player can run up to 27 hours on four AA alkaline batteries or continuously using the external USB-C power supply. The KR-019CR measures 49 × 149 × 245 mm (1.93 x 5.87 x 9.65 in.) and weighs 685 g (1.51 lbs.).
The KR-019CR will be released on April 18 in Japan. The price has not been announced.
