I-O Data has unveiled the SSPJ-UTC, a tiny USB-C flash drive for use with smartphones, tablets and laptops.
The product extends just 8.5 mm (0.33 in.) from the opening of the USB-C port, which reduces the chances of it getting broken off when left constantly attached. The entire 4.0 g (0.14 oz.) drive measures 23 x 15 x 14 mm (0.91 x 0.59 x 0.55 in.).
The USB 3.2 Gen 1 drive has a maximum read transfer rate of 450 MB/s and a maximum write transfer rate of 400 MB/s, claims I-O Data. The drive comes formatted in exFAT for broad compatibility with Android, Apple, Linux, and Windows devices. It supports computer backups using Apple TimeMachine, Windows Backup and I-O Data's Sync Connect+ software.
The I-O Data USB drive comes in 256 GB (SSPJ-UTC256) and 512 GB (SSPJ-UTC512) capacities. They are priced at 7,700 yen (~$53) and 13,200 yen (~$91) respectively.
The SSPJ-UTC will begin shipping in Japan in September 2025.
