Reviews for the Huawei Mate X

Huawei Mate X: First look
Source: Tech Advisor English Archive.org version
The Mate X is proof the future is nearly here, but you might not want to buy a first generation foldable phone. But there's no doubt this is better hardware than the Galaxy Fold - we'll have to wait and see if the software is as good.

The Huawei Mate X might be the first foldable phone you seriously consider paying gobs of money for in 2019. Its solid-feeling hinge allows this handset to fold up, transforming from full 8-inch tablet into a more-traditional-looking 6.6-inch and 6.38-inch smartphone with a screen on either side. It feels like you're holding the future in your hand, just know that your transformative euphoria over this phone comes at a very high price.

Huawei Mate X initial review: Foldable champ
Source: Pocket Lint English Archive.org version
Huawei was one of the first to show off its foldable smartphone, the Mate X is an exciting start. Yes it's big and chunky, and it'll undoubtedly take time to mature into a product that most consumers will want to use, but it's a very promising device and form factor with tonnes of potential. We suspect with this particular model that the price tag is almost impossible to swallow for most average consumers, and maybe even for the tech-enthused early adopter. But if Huawei works on the form, makes it smaller, polishes the software to make it a killer experience, and brings the price down, you may just start to see it in a few more hands.

Samsung struggled to make a strong case for them with the Galaxy Fold, with that device seemingly sacrificing a decent phone experience to achieve the new design. With the Mate X that doesn’t seem to be an issue and this looks like it’ll be fantastic whether it's folded down into a phone or unfurled into a tablet.

Huawei Mate X review (early verdict): a 5G folding phone pioneer
Source: T3 English Archive.org version
The Huawei Mate X is a folding phone pioneer. From our hands on time with the device it not only definitely proved that folding phones are far from a gimmick, but it also genuinely wowed us with its build quality as well as fit and finish. The Mate X is genuinely exciting to hold in the hand, and for that Huawei must be congratulated. However, naturally, no judgement can be bestowed on the phone until we get chance to extensively test the device, as its incredibly high price will almost certainly not be the only obstacle it will need to overcome to win our approval.

Huawei Mate X Review: Their is Folding Screen Phones Beast
Source: Igeekphone English Archive.org version
Some might ask, “Is it worth $2,600?” It needs to be clear that Mate X is not a continuation of any existing equipment or design. Although it is based on existing smartphone and tablet technology, it is still a new form. For this reason, Huawei’s Mate X and Samsung’s Galaxy Fold phones must now create an exclusive market for devices, and must also recover a lot of research and development costs. Today’s early user prices reflect all of these factors, and it is unfair to judge the phone with current smartphone standards and prices.

Using the Mate X made me a foldable phone believer
Source: CNet English Archive.org version
Last week, Samsung and Huawei announced the $1,980 Galaxy Fold and $2,600 Mate X foldable phones, respectively. I gawked along with everyone else, absorbing every detail I could, but it wasn't until I spent a good 5 minutes playing around with the Mate X in a cramped, stuffy meeting room at MWC 2019 that the appeal of foldable devices sunk in on a much deeper level. Not every foldable phone design will be a revelation, but for me, opening and closing the Mate X was.

The decision to show media the device in this controlled fashion has us believe that, again like Samsung, Huawei has made a technological marvel but is cautious about the software bugs. A room with scores of tech journalists will quickly find way to pick holes in a new device as much as they have just fawned over it.

Why Huawei's Mate X is the foldable phone to beat
Source: Sydney Morning Herald English Archive.org version
Overall, the Mate X offers a larger display on all fronts with a more refined design, thinner frame and gapless hinge with minimal compromises. Of course there's still question marks over the durability of the hinge and screen in the long-term, but for now the Mate X is the foldable phone to beat.

Huawei Mate X first look: 5G flexibility in a foldable form factor (Updated)
Source: Android Authority English Archive.org version
The Huawei Mate X is a tablet-phone hybrid with an exterior folding display Huawei calls “FullView display,” which is wrapped around the outside of the device. The single flexible 8-inch OLED display provides a tablet experience when open, as well as a phone mode. The Mate X in tablet mode is not quite square with an aspect ratio of 8:7.1. Its 2,480 x 2,200 resolution results in 414 pixels per inch.

But as first impressions go, the Mate X edges nearer to a well-rounded reality than a pie-in-the-sky concept – impressive considering it’s still a few months from hitting the market – and is certainly one of the 2019 handsets we most look forward to getting our mitts on again later this year.

Huawei Mate X – the dazzling new flagship phone with everything
Source: Gadgetguy English Archive.org version
Well, we kind of expected big things from Huawei this year with its new phones, but only superlatives can be used for everything to do with the Huawei Mate X smart phone. In the lead up to the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, Huawei showed off a phone that, at this stage, looks to be state-of-the-art in everything. (And those superlatives apply equally, as we’ll see, to the purchase price).

Huawei Mate X hands-on review
Source: GSM Arena English Archive.org version
Unfortunately that's all the hardware info we currently have on the Huawei Mate X. Many potentially important pieces are still missing from the puzzle. Judging by the company's often vague answers to particular questions and the fact that the unit we was on the show floor was the only unit available, we don't really expect to many particulars to get cleared up in the immediate future.

Model: The Huawei Mate X is a flagship high-end smartphone which claims to be the future of mobile technology. It features a new folding design, which integrates a new era of communicative interaction. Users can keep it compact for daily smartphone tasks or unfold to reveal an exceptional experience in multitasking or entertainment. Based on Huawei’s tests, the flexible screen can bend and stretch numerous times without failing. Users can prepare to be surprised by its innovation and ground-breaking performance. The HUAWEI Mate X is engineered to be impressively thin with what it calls as the ‘Falcon Wing’ design. This unprecedented stretchable hinge is artistically crafted to dissolve into the device for a smooth and flat finish on both sides of the device. The firm and durable design ensures the screen will not over stretch while folding or bulge in unfolding. With the folding display, users can experience boundless proficiency in Split Screen mode. Now, users can drag an image to email or write a memo while searching on the browser and overcome work challenges more efficiently. Besides that, the power switch is integrated with the fingerprint reader into one fast and secure button. Another highlight of the Mate X is the 5G chipset. Ushering in the 5G revolution with the HUAWEI Balong 5000, the world's first 7 nm multimode 5G chipset achieves industry-leading 5G download speed. The HUAWEI Mate X with Balong 5000 officially unlocks a new experience in the 5G era. The advanced dual sim provides extensive access to 2G / 3G / 4G / 5G frequency bands around the globe. Leading the 5G evolution, HUAWEI Mate X also supports Standalone 5G network, which will be the mainstream solution in the future.

The hardware performance is provided by the HUAWEI Kirin 980 with 2 x Cortex-A76 Based 2.6 GHz, 2 x Cortex-A76 Based 1.92 GHz and 4 x Cortex-A55 1.8 GHz, Mali-G76 GPU, 8 GB RAM and 512 GB ROM. As for software, the Mate X runs on EMUI 9.1.1, which is the latest EMUI version based on Android 9. With the world’s fastest 55 W HUAWEI SuperCharge, users can charge the phone up to 85% in 30 minutes. The camera has a compact hand-held bar design with a re-designed Leica Camera System perfectly balancing the pursuit of a slim body and comfortable grip. The camera is a Leica camera with 40 MP (wide angle lens) + 16 MP (ultra-wide-angle lens) + 8 MP (telephoto). On the back with a futuristic interstellar blue, a new material is adopted to allow an uninterrupted 5G signal. The dual screen design allows the user to preview shots in real-time from both sides and contribute their creative ideas to produce a stunning portrait. As a conclusion, the Mate X is suitable for users who are looking for the latest designed smartphone. The design is highly catered for business users who work a lot from their phone since multitasking is much more convenient with the folding screen. However, this newly designed high-performance smartphone does not come cheap, so it is only suitable for users who are willing to pay the high price.
