The Honor Magic V5 is one of the thinnest foldables currently available and, despite its slim design, impresses with its stability and IP59 protection. The foldable main and cover displays are brighter, better colour-matched and easy on the eyes thanks to PWM dimming. In addition to stylus support, the device offers Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi 7 with 6 GHz band, numerous 5G bands, offline translation and AI-powered deepfake detection. With Android 15 and MagicOS 9.0.1 from launch, Honor guarantees seven years of updates in the EU. Security is ensured by a fingerprint scanner in the power button and fast facial recognition. The triple camera delivers versatile shots with a powerful 3x periscope zoom.
The first world record that Honor likes to highlight is that the Magic V5 is the thinnest foldable phone. That's not entirely true (we report), but the V5 still made it into the Guinness Book of Records.
The battery holds two records: firstly, it has the largest capacity in a foldable smartphone and, secondly, it also has the highest silicon content, which is what makes the high energy density possible in the first place. In addition, the battery has a temperature resistance of up to -30 °C, is designed to last for three years and has an energy density of 874 Wh/L.
The hinge is particularly durable and made from the strongest steel, which has a tensile strength of 2,300 MPa. This is also unique in a foldable device.
Finally, it is worth mentioning a 0.014 mm thin fibre from the aerospace industry, which reinforces the foldable display of the Honor Magic V5.
These are exciting details, especially in terms of durability and resilience, which are rounded off by IP59 certification. This means that the Magic V5 is not only waterproof when submerged, but also protected against high-pressure and steam jet cleaning. Unfortunately, it is not dustproof.
