A powerful 15" laptop that's ideal for home and office tasks. Hi-Grade is a UK-based manufacturer that uses generic components to offer good value for money. The Notino D8000W an upgraded version of the Notino D8000 we reviewed a while back, featuring a high-end Intel Core 2 Duo processor and dedicated graphics. Overall, Hi-Grade's Notino D8000W is a competent machine, only let down by its noisy keyboard and poor battery life. That said, it's unfortunately difficult to recommend this laptop over some of its excellent rivals.

Hi-Grade's Notino D8000 is comfortable and well-specified, but fails to come together as a complete package. Hi-Grade is a UK manufacturer, making good value machines in a range of specifications. The Notino D8000 uses a generic chassis and we've seen it featured on various Hi-Grade models over the past two years. The Notino D8000 isn't a bad laptop, but it lacks any stand-out features to recommend it outright. Performance is reasonable and it's a well-made machine, but more is expected at this price.

While the Notino D8000i isn't a pretty machine and suffers from limited portability, among other flaws, it's also a strong performer, with a vibrant screen and some excellent features. If you're looking for a reasonably priced home machine, you could do a lot worse.

Hi-Grade: Hi-Grade Computers was founded in 1986 as a small computer reseller in UK. It is a manufacturer home and business PCs, and a provider of computer solutions to government, education and the corporate sector. The laptop market share is very low.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS: Compared to the 9300M G, the GS has only 8 unified shaders but a higher clock rate. Therefore, the performance should be similar according to Nvidia. Supports
Hybrid-SLI (GeForceBoost and HybridPower) with Nvidia 9100M G and PureVideo HD (VP3).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).
The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.
P8600:
Fast but still not overpriced dual core CPU. For most games and multimedia applications sufficient and due to the 25W TDP even for smaller notebooks useable.
Intel Core i5:
520M:
The Core i5-520M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-640M) and clocks between 2.4-2.93 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD 3150) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
15.4: 15 inch display-variants are the standard and are used for more than the half of all notebooks. 15.4 inch display with 16:10 are the standard for notebook displays. Nowadays, more and more 16:9 displays with 15.6 inch appear. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.
