It seems rumors about a fancy Android Wear-powered smartwatch made by HTC were wrong, as the latest reports from insiders reveal a basic fitness tracker that is expected to show up next month.

Since virtually every major phone maker has released a smartwatch so far or is rumored to work on such a device, HTC's first smartwatch has been in the rumor mill for a while. We heard about this HTC wearable and its alleged features more than just once or twice, but all these rumors ended up with a perpetual delay or simply faded without ever coming back.

The latest report about a HTC wearable comes from VentureBeat, a website that claims to have the info directly from "a company spokesperson" who revealed that the long-awaited device will arrive "during the first quarter of 2015." This insider also mentioned the device is not a smartwatch, but something "very different from anything currently on the market" without adding any details.

If this leak turns out to be true, HTC's first wearable device will be shown next month at CES 2015 in Las Vegas, but its formal launch will take place at a later date.
