The "Plus" doesn't mean plus-size. HP's latest Pavilion laptop adds a host of high-end features and performance upgrades that could have easily belonged to an Envy or Spectre model. Does the Pavilion Plus 14 cut any corners?
Source: Laptop Mag
The HP Pavilion Plus 14 has so many positives for any user to enjoy. The stunning 14-inch 2.8k display is perfect for media consumption or digital art. Multi-taskers will love the speedy performance of the Intel Core 17 processor, even while running multiple demanding apps. And who doesn’t appreciate a comfortable keyboard? It truly has the makings of a five-star device. Unfortunately, the dismal battery life makes working on-the-go nearly impossible, which tips the scale out of that five-star range. What use is the ultraportability of this laptop if you’re still tethered to outlets all day? Unless you can adjust your workflow to match the short life of the HP Pavilion Plus 14, you might want to check out other ultra-portable options such as the MSI Prestige 14 Evo that offers similar performance for a similar price.

Despite its flaws, I see the Pavilion Plus 14 as a good midrange pick. The chassis is solid and lightweight, the camera is neat, and the screen is hard to beat at this price point. Even the MacBook Air lacks the 90Hz smoothness and OLED contrast the Pavilion can offer. That doesn’t mean it’s for everyone. The inefficiency of the processor really makes this ideal for a small group of shoppers who are looking for heavy-duty CPU power and a great screen on a really lightweight device. If you’re not among those folks and just want a well-performing ultraportable, there are better picks for you out there.

At this point, you might be wondering if you’re the right person to buy the HP Pavilion Plus. Ultimately, you might actually get better battery life from the model with the U-series processor. In fact, I’d expect that you would, but I don’t have experience with that. As for Thunderbolt, most people actually don’t benefit from that. The Intel technology is somewhat ubiquitous, but at the same time, most people aren’t connecting an external GPU, dual 4K monitors, or anything else that you can’t do with just a standard USB Type-C port.

The HP Pavilion Plus 14 is an upgrade from the original Pavilion 14 and is meant to be a decently priced low-ranged laptop for those who need a dedicated work machine. It comes with a pretty solid screen size, which is complemented by the thinner bezels that give you more screen real estate. Its OLED touchscreen display is responsive and features an impressive picture quality that makes anything displayed through it crystal clear and sharp, which alone is worth the slightly higher price tag. This feature shines when paired with the webcam, which is crisp and clean when sitting through Zoom meetings, but it’s a shame the webcam doesn’t come with a mechanical privacy shutter though, since nowadays its pretty much a necessity.

Some of our favorite laptops have IPS displays, but once you've seen an OLED panel it's hard to settle for less. The HP Pavilion Plus 14 is a capable ultraportable in its IPS guise, but its OLED version is a major value even with the surcharge of our review unit's 1TB SSD. Losing a few ounces and gaining a few hours of battery life would make it awesome, but it still deserves Editors' Choice honors and a spot on your shopping list.

The HP Pavilion Plus 14 isn’t the first thin-and-light laptop I’ve reviewed with a 45-watt CPU and, apparently, thermally limited performance. However, it’s much more forgivable at an $850 sale price with a spectacular 90Hz OLED display. The battery life is disappointing, but the build quality is excellent, as are the keyboard and touchpad. And as this review is being written, you can buy the Pavilion Plus 14 with a Core i5-1240P CPU and a 2.2K IPS display for as low as $550, which is a tremendous value. The Pavilion Plus 14 is an attractive mid-range laptop even at full retail prices. And I can’t stress enough how nice it is to get such a great OLED display at such a low price.

We would like to start the final part of this review with some thoughts on the configuration we got ourselves. It has the Core i5-1235U and the MX550. Due to the lazy approach toward computational performance, we see quite a big bottleneck in games like DOTA2. There was pretty much no differentiation between the Medium and High settings, which does not happen often unless there is some bottleneck in place. Unfortunately, HP has soldered the memory of this device. And it hasn’t taken advantage of low-power memory but instead uses DDR4 chips. At least you can use Gen 4 SSDs in the single M.2 PCIe x4 slot. A fingerprint reader is also present here – right next to the Bang & Olufsen symbol. Despite that, the speakers are not fantastic. As you can tell, the Pavilion Plus 14 (14-eh0000) is in a game of attrition. There is some fascinating stuff about it, but at the same time, you are always left with a bittersweet taste in your mouth. At the end of the day, it is a tough match for the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro (14″).

The HP Pavilion Plus 14 is priced at Rs 79,999 on HP India’s official website which does make it a worthwhile contender in the laptop space. Of course, there are devices like the Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G that undercut the Pavilion in terms of specs on paper. It also doesn’t help that I got lower battery life on HP’s offering than what most competing products offer. However, HP, as a household name in the PC market, does offer certain considerations like a robust customer support system among other things. Combined with the rigid build quality, a decent keyboard and a good display, the Pavilion Plus 14 has the potential of becoming your everyday work companion.

As an affordable, compact, do-it-all, the Pavilion Plus 14 isn’t a bad offering. The display is beautifully crisp and colourful, the keyboard a pleasure to work on, and the RTX 2050 GPU lets it perform graphics tasks, even if AAA gaming is a stretch. The fly in the ointment is battery life. I’m sure HP could have found space for another few Wh of capacity and that would have made all the difference. The white backlight on silver keyboard problem is even more avoidable. It’s a shame that none of the other four colours listed on HP’s US website seem to be available in the UK – the Space Blue and Warm Gold models look particularly easy on the eye and would lessen the backlight contrast issues.

I began this review by saying that buying a premium laptop in India can be very tricky, and the HP Pavilion 14 Plus is one of those tricky notebooks to recommend. In terms of build, I do not have any complaints, and it could even be a good alternative for MacBooks - purely based on design. It can also handle daily tasks like web browsing, watching movies, video calling, and light gaming without much stutter, but the poor battery life makes the experience loathsome. And beyond all this, the Rs 80,000 is simply perplexing and personally, dissuades me from buying it. However, if the price drops to Rs 55,000 -- it could be a good buy, and HP could consider pricing it aggressively. Just to be clear, the mediocrity of this laptop does not mean that HP falls short of ideas. The company still owns a large market share in India, and the new laptops in its Envy and Omen portfolio are very capable. But the Pavilion is what attracts the masses, and HP should consider making it feature-packed yet affordable.

The HP Pavilion Plus 14 is a good-looking and well built laptop for general work and could even be suitable for creative professionals. Its crisp display, compact body, comfortable keyboard, and reasonably powerful specs are some of the main reasons you might want to consider it. The Rs. 79,999 price tag is not too bad considering the overall package, however if you don't really need the high-resolution display then you could also look at the Pavilion 14 models which have nearly identical specs but a full-HD display, for a lot less. Battery life is really the only main weak point of the Pavilion Plus 14 laptop, and some might also find the fixed RAM to be a dealbreaker.

The business laptops offered by HP focus on features like video calls, keyboard, mouse and display. This laptop also has a powerful processor and a beautiful display. Starting at Rs 91,999, the HP Pavilion Plus laptops also offer premium looks and decent audio performance. If you are looking for a power-packed business laptop that can also do professional work like photo editing, this laptop can be an ideal choice. However, the price seems a little steep and would attract more customers if it comes down a bit.

The HP Pavilion Plus 14 is a fantastic professional machine for office and creative endeavors; you can even run some games here – as long as you don’t expect all-day battery life. Our review unit runs fine, handles file transfers speedily better than competitors, and isn’t insanely expensive. It has a slim build but doesn’t sacrifice any ports you’d need to stay productive at the office. The keyboard is comfortable and responsive, the touchpad offers satisfying feedback, and the OLED display is bold and beautiful. Sure, the Pavilion’s design isn’t the most stunning around, but it’s the steal for folks that need a truly powerful machine with a great screen without breaking the bank. Just keep the compact power brick close- and maybe buy an extra one to keep at the office. Beyond that, you’re getting an HP Pavilion Plus 14 with an OLED screen that’s able to elevate any image to near crystal-clear perfection.

Last year's Core i7-12700H was fast, but the switch to Zen 4 has done wonders to battery life and efficiency without needing to sacrifice performance. The OLED display, fast integrated GPU, and affordable starting prices make the Pavilion Plus 14 a great option for students and most casual editors.

We were planning to give the 2023 Pavilion Plus 14 an Editors' Choice, possibly even four-and-a-half-star review when it was on sale for well under $1,000, but all good things, like discounts, must come to an end. If you can spare $1,239.99, however—or consider the Intel rather than AMD version while that model enjoys HP.com's sale spotlight—it's still a terrific productivity partner to tuck into your briefcase or backpack, with capable performance and a better-than-capable display for work or school.

I was almost done writing this review when HP sent me a link to buy my review configuration for just $900 at Costco (for members). I was going to give it a lower rating and a lesser review at the HP.com price of $1,230, so I had to scramble to update the review accordingly. At the Costco price, even for non-members, the 2023 Pavilion Plus 14 is another great value. You get excellent performance, a good enough build, and a gorgeous OLED display for under $1,000. The Asus Zenbook 14X OLED and Zenbook 14 OLED both still remain strong competitors, but you should absolutely consider the Pavilion Plus 14 before making your buying decision.

The HP Pavilion Plus 14 powered by the Intel Core i7-1355U brings with it the same niceties found in the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U variant including the 2.8K IMAX Enhanced OLED display and 5 MP webcam while also adding a Thunderbolt 4 port. The similarities end there, however, and our review finds out that the performance disparity between the Intel and AMD variants is night and day.

The HP Pavilion Plus 14 comes with some really impressive performance chops, thanks to a solid combination of an Intel Core i7 processor and a stunning OLED display. This laptop is built to handle everyday tasks effortlessly, and reliable choice for both work and entertainment purposes. Whether you’re tackling office assignments or indulging in multimedia content, the HP Pavilion effortlessly fits into both these roles. However, there are a couple of areas where it could improve. The speakers could have been better tuned, and the battery life could be more optimized considering the size of the chassis. Nevertheless, in terms of performance, the Pavilion Plus 14 shines. Throughout our testing, it consistently proved its capability, never leaving us wanting for more power. While there may be other laptops in a similar price range with better battery life, none can match the Pavilion Plus 14’s outstanding performance and impressive display quality.

Throughout our testing, it consistently proved its capability, never leaving us wanting for more power. While there may be other laptops in a similar price range with better battery life, none can match the Pavilion Plus 14’s outstanding performance and impressive display quality.

It’s rare to find a laptop at this price that gets three of the most important things right: performance, battery life, and a gorgeous 2.8K OLED display. The HP Pavilion Plus Laptop 14 does just that and does it well. In my book, this trifecta of wins makes it a stellar productivity and light entertainment laptop that won’t break the bank.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

78.12%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
