Reviews for the Google Pixel 6a

85.8% Google Pixel 6a review - Powerful mid-range smartphone with a small display handicap | Notebookcheck
The small, 6.1-inch Google Pixel 6a is very fast and offers perhaps the best cameras in the smartphone mid-range. In addition, it scores with a bright AMOLED display, a good battery life, and a long period of updates. However, particularly the display of the Android 13 smartphone might cause some mixed feelings, as our test shows.
Google Pixel 6a long-term review; a year after and nothing but pure bliss
Source: Root Nation English
After a year and a few months of active usage, we can say that the Google Pixel 6 is a great device. Unlike other devices in its price point, this device keeps getting better with the passing months. Its performance is still as good as when it was new, its camera quality is still awesome, and it has stood the test of time. Some people might hold back due to the size of this device but we can assure you that is nothing to worry about. This was also an issue for us at initial purchase but after a few weeks of regular usage, we got the hang of things. The only this we found a bit off about this device is that it tends to be a bit slippery when in the hand. Well, that issue solely depends on how you hold your device and will be present for those who let their device lay flat on their palms while in use.

90% Google Pixel 6a review: a good budget buy?
Source: Amateur Photographer English
The Google Pixel 6A offers a great dual-camera system with a very good ultra-wide camera, as well as a good to very good wide-angle camera. And, whilst it may not match the flagship smartphones such as the Pixel 6 / Pixel 6 Pro, it comes very close to the performance, with excellent colours, exposure, dynamic range and detail. It’s likely you’ll need to spend significantly more money to get a better smartphone camera system, and the Pixel 6A also benefits from the impressive computational photography features such as Night sight, magic eraser, and astrophotography, which are great features to have, and difficult to beat. If a telephoto camera is of importance to you, then the 6A offers a reasonable 2x digital zoom, but this can’t compete with smartphones with a true telephoto camera. For those looking for compact smartphone, the Pixel 6A is hard to beat, especially at this price.

80% Google Pixel 6a review: A DRAMATIC Black Friday price drop
Source: Expert Reviews English
So there’s plenty to like about the Pixel 6a, then. Not that you should be surprised – after all, Google’s pedigree is well-documented at this point – but the Pixel 6a should still be applauded for squeezing this much stuff into a handset this affordable. Very few phones can match the calibre of images it’s capable of capturing, and those that can are typically flagships costing twice as much as the Pixel 6a. Performance is also spot-on, not to mention that it uses one of the most colour-accurate displays I’ve ever laid eyes on. But it’s not without fault. The Pixel 6a’s battery life is weaker than its predecessor (but still good) and the lack of a microSD slot and face unlock continues to be an annoyance. What’s most bizarre, though, is its timing. The nine-month-old Pixel 6 has dropped in price since launch and currently isn’t far off what Google is charging for the Pixel 6a. If you can spare the extra cash, you’re better off going with Google’s flagship – if anything just for the slightly larger 6.4in 90Hz display and 50MP main camera. However, if your wallet simply can’t stretch past the £400 mark, then the Pixel 6a 5G can’t be beaten.

With that said, if you’ve been clamoring for a smaller Pixel with the full-scale Tensor experience, this is your man… er, phone. It’s capped in terms of RAM and storage, as all Pixel A series devices are, but you’re not likely to notice either factor in day-to-day life. What you’re more likely to notice is the smooth Pixel UI experience, the enjoyable Material You customizations, and the clever imaging algorithms that keep Google besting the budget competition despite the device’s aging camera hardware.

Google Pixel 6a Audio test
Source: DxOMark English
In our DXOMARK Audio testing, the Google Pixel 6a delivered an excellent performance for a device in its class. Overall, audio results were very similar to the standard Pixel 6, with only some minor differences between the two models. As a playback device, the Pixel 6a was most suitable for movie watching and listening to music, thanks to a good dynamics performance, distance perception, and localizability of individual sound sources. In addition, when holding the phone normally, it was pretty much impossible to involuntarily cover the speakers. However, our testers found the tonal balance to lack bass and the sound scene to be more narrow than expected for a device of the Pixel’s dimensions. The recording performance was just as good as playback. The Google device was most suitable for main camera recording, closely followed by front camera video recording. Audio recordings featured a good tonal balance, with more low-end extension than the standard Pixel 6, good dynamics, and when recording with the main camera, good wideness. The latter was more limited with the selfie camera, though, and the stronger focus on bass also resulted in more distortion.

This is a Pixel that, at any lower price point, would be just as sweet as any other. However, the Pixel 6a doesn’t come in at $349 or $399. Instead, it’s tougher to justify for most buyers at $449 when the superior Pixel 6 is looming so close at $599 (or less on sale). With that said, if you’ve been clamoring for a smaller Pixel with the full-scale Tensor experience, this is your man… er, phone. Source: ePhotozine English
The Google Pixel 6a did make us debate if it was worth recommending as usually, this range offers great specs at a price that's much better value than the premium Google Pixel range. However, with the Google Pixel 6's price coming down with the release of the 7 and 7 Pro, you'd actually just be better off purchasing the Pixel 6. If a smartphone that's smaller in size is important to you, though, the Pixel 6a could still appeal.

80% Google Pixel 6a review: Price under Rs 30,000... it is worth every penny
Source: India Today English
Personally, I am a big fan of Pixel phones. But I am also disappointed in the fact that Google has so far failed to offer to Indian consumers a Pixel phone that is relatively niggle-free, a phone that can be recommended without ifs and buts. For people like me who cannot digest all the custom software that phone companies put in their devices, and then their myriad UI quirks, the Pixel 6a is the only good Android option. But I also feel that it is somewhat overpriced in India. A price of around Rs 35,000 would have been perfect for it. And this brings me to the Flipkart Big Billion Day sale in which the Pixel 6a is going to sell for under Rs 30,000. At that price, despite its average display, the Pixel 6a becomes a great deal. It is a well-rounded, easy-to-like phone with superb cameras, clean software and distinct design. Being a Google phone, it is also guaranteed to get Android OS updates for at least two years. So, if you are thinking of getting the Pixel 6a and if you can get it with some discount, go for it.

The Google Pixel 6a pulls some of the best Pixel 6 features into a smaller and more affordable package. It's easy to use with one hand and offers more of a processing punch than previous Pixel A phones, even if the battery life takes a big hit. At Rs. 43,999, Google's Pixel 6a sure gets the job done for casual users and mobile photography enthusiasts. Google's gamble of going with a high-end processor but cutting corners in some areas such as design, display, and system memory seems to have paid off. However, power users looking for premium build quality, solid gaming performance, faster charging, and a fluid software interface will need to look at competing smartphones instead. The Xiaomi 11T Pro (Review) (starts from Rs. 39,999), the Oppo Reno 8 Pro (Review) (at Rs. 45,999), and the OnePlus 10R Endurance Edition (Review) (Rs. 39,999) are all excellent alternatives to the Pixel 6a. There's also the Google Pixel 6 which is currently available unofficially (without warranty) at around Rs. 43,500 and is definitely better value than the 6a thanks to a 90Hz display, an IP68 rating, 8GB RAM, 50-megapixel primary camera, and a bigger battery along with wireless charging. The Google Pixel 6a is by no means an all-rounder, but it is still a very unique offering that should appeal to buyers who are willing to put good camera performance and timely software updates above everything else.

Google Pixel 6a Smartphone Review
Source: OI Spice Tech News English
The Google Pixel 6a is not a bad choice if you are expecting performance from the phone. Besides this, the key selling point of this phone would be its faster software update and immersive camera quality. Both of them are available at most of the same price as mid-range flagship phones. But if you look at the battery life and customization factors, you might feel disappointed. In that situation, you can choose an alternative option like the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G, even though it’s slightly more expensive than this phone, but if you are looking for an alternative option the Galaxy S22 can be considered a good deal as it renders all-rounder features and specs.

76% Google Pixel 6a Review: For those Intense about Tensor and Android Updates
Source: Tech PP English
The Google Pixel 6a comes in a single 6 GB /128 GB variant priced at Rs 43,999. Whether you should buy it or not really depends on how much you value a clean Android experience with assured and speedy updates. Unlike in the past, this Pixel does not beat the competition in the camera department, and its overall performance, while smooth, can be matched by others. The Motorola Edge 30 Pro actually delivers a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Generation 1 chip and a relatively clean Android experience at Rs 42,999, although the brand’s software update record has been less than perfect. There are also a number of Snapdragon 888 devices available in and around Rs 40,000, led by the Mi 10T Pro and the iQOO 9. Then there is the matter of the OnePlus 10R which brings a relatively clean interface, a powerful processor (MediaTek Dimensity 8100 Max) and insanely fast charging at below Rs 40,000. And of course, those wanting clean Android might even be tempted by the Nothing Phone (1), which certainly delivers on that front and is a decent performer at Rs 33,999, although it is not in the same league in terms of camera and processor.

80% Google Pixel 6a Review: For the love of Android (conditions apply)
Source: The Times of India English
The Google Pixel 6a is expensive for what it offers but it takes an enthusiast to love the Pixel and appreciate what it has in store. A finely crafted software experience backed by potent hardware and a pair of great cameras is what the Pixel series has been all about, always; and the Pixel 6a carries on that tradition. It is great to see Google doing its magic with a lovely hardware design that goes hand-in-hand with the software. That itself makes the Pixel 6a a worthy recommendation for Android lovers. Obviously, there are flaws in the Pixel 6a. The 60Hz display is an eyesore and so is the slow 18W charging. With fierce competition in Android town, Google should have been cautious. The Nothing Phone (1) is the new poster boy for Android fans – it is cheaper to own but offers the same Pixel-like user experience with a signature “Nothing-ness”.

Google's Pixel 6a is an impressive follow-up to last year's Pixel 5a. It captures the essence of what made the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro such special smartphones and wraps it a more affordable package. 90% Google Pixel 6a Review: How Is It THIS Good?!
Source: Gadgetbyte Nepal English
So, to conclude this review, I really really enjoyed my time with the Google Pixel 6a. I honestly didn’t expect it to be this good! Just before I started using this phone, I kept thinking that this review might turn out to be a rant of sorts, because, on paper, the Google Pixel 6a isn’t a good deal by any imagination. At least when you look at the specs. It has a plastic body, a 60Hz screen, and sluggish charging for a whopping INR 44,000! But despite all this, I am genuinely impressed! Of course, you can find phones like the OnePlus 9RT or the iQOO 9 with superior hardware specs, but I am 100% confident that none of them can match the experience and camera quality of the Pixel 6a. And one more thing. I hope to see Google address the exorbitant pricing issue in markets like India sooner than later. One of the ways it can do this is by manufacturing Pixel phones in India itself, which should keep the price down by a significant amount. But whether Google wants to aggressively expand its smartphone business in this part of the world remains to be seen.

80% Google Pixel 6a review: Google redefines mid-range phones
Source: Hardware Zone English
If you're not against owning a grey market phone, the full-fledged Pixel 6 offered in third-party shops also offers so-called "international sets". We brought this up because these grey units are priced between S$700-S$800, which is even closer to the Pixel 6a’s SRP. One can also argue that the price range of Pixel phones is indicative of actual perceived value, i.e. street pricing, should the Pixel 6 ever be sold through multiple retail channels like how Pixel 6a is. Nevertheless, should one squarely want a S$700-S$800 "premium mid-range" phone with a local warranty, the Google Pixel 6a will be the phone to get, largely due to its awesome imaging capabilities and stock Android experience. However, if you strongly believe in an old HWZ Forums adage (“top up a bit can get a better model already”), there's always a better Model: a true-flagship Pixel 6.

Google Pixel 6a Battery test
Source: DxOMark English
The Google Pixel 6a’s battery struggled in the series of battery tests, leading to an overall low global score. Its performance during the typical usage scenario was average, but the idle phases were not well-managed. During the calibrated tests, the device consumed a lot of power when calling and streaming music, but showed decent autonomy when streaming videos. When using key outdoor functions such as the GPS navigation, the camera, or especially when calling, the Pixel 6a’s autonomy was very low. In terms of charging, the 30W Google charger couldn’t provide a decent experience because the device supported only 18W. It took 2 hours and 12 minutes to fully charge the 4410mAh battery. The autonomy gained after charging the phone for 5 minutes was only 2 hours and 10 minutes on average, among the lowest in our database so far. The charge efficiency was also really low, even though the travel adapter’s efficiency was average. One good point, however, was that Google’s 30W charger’s had one of the lowest residual consumption levels when left plugged into a power outlet without charging the phone.

70% Google Pixel 6a review: worth the premium?
Source: 91mobiles English
The Pixel 6a retails for Rs 43,999 in India and for the price, the device gets a few things right. The smartphone offers a clean, no-fuss UI and looks the part of a premium product too. Moreover, Google’s Tensor chip – while not the quickest – is still snappy enough for most workloads and the 6a offers a snug fit in the hand too. On the flip side, the handset would’ve been better off with a high refresh rate display. Furthermore, the smartphone’s charging speeds are quite slow and while the smartphone’s camera performance is good, it is not impressive enough to give the device a clear edge over the competition. Rest assured, buyers looking for the fastest or the most feature-packed Android should look elsewhere. However, if you value a phone’s software and ergonomics above all else, then the Pixel 6a will not disappoint you.

Google Pixel 6a three weeks later: still the HERO! (video)
Source: Pocketnow English
To conclude, I think you now understand why it was so important for me to introduce this video with how this lineup came to be, and how this phone is not necessarily that. Yes, this is the Pixel 6a, but we saw Google switch the formula with the 4a by giving us a 5G variant. We then saw the company switch the cheap feel for metal and a more aggressive price with the 5a. Point is, yes, this is Google's most affordable Pixel, but it's also another switch in strategy. Yes, it's like an iPhone SE because it includes a flagship chip, but if we're honest, it's nothing like it because Apple sticks to a six-year-old design, and doesn’t take full advantage of the chip in photography. By contrast, the Pixel 6a is almost as good as the Pixel 6, which in our opinion is the flagship killer, all while giving you an option to pay less for most of those features. So, it's not really a flagship. It's not really a mid-ranger. The Google Pixel 6a is something else which I feel you should really consider. If you don't care about high refresh rate, wireless charging, a glass back and a few other tidbits, this should be your phone.

Pixel 6a Review: The Little Sibling Has Big Power!
Source: Android Headlines English
A review of the Pixel 6a is more of a comparison to the Pixel 6. Both phones are similar in several aspects to the point where you’re basically using the same phone. You’d be hardpressed to find a difference when it comes to the camera quality, performance, and display quality. The build quality isn’t as premium, the display caps out at 60Hz, and the camera isn’t as new. But, those are small trade-offs for the amazing package you’re getting with this phone. If you’re interested in getting into the Pixel series of phones, and you don’t want to spend too much money, you should definitely pick up a Pixel 6a.

Google Pixel 6a Three Weeks Later - Still the HERO!
Source: Pocketnow English
See, we’ve known this Pixel “a” series as the company’s most successful lineup ever, but it’s also more of a nod to the past. Just like the early days of the Pixel, the Nexus also started as a premium offering, only for things to not pan out, and for the company to shift strategies with the Nexus 4 in creating the world’s first flagship killer. In sort-of the same approach, the Pixel 3a was a genius move. Instead of only focusing on one phone, you could choose between flagship and mid-ranger, with the benefit that great photography became a Pixel trait across the board. It was pretty irresistible at just $399, but then Google kept experimenting. Over the next two years we saw all Pixels tip completely to become mid-rangers, but then this year, it seems the formula is now to go hard on defying the establishment. So sure, even if the Pixel 6a is a successor to every “a” variant we’ve seen before, it’s different because it’s not really a mid-ranger, and sure, I wouldn’t call it a flagship either. At a time when most heroes have lived long enough to become the villain, this phone is something else.

84% Google Pixel 6A review
Source: GSM Arena English
Before continuing with the verdict, we need to address an issue revealed by early testers of the Pixel 6a. It was confirmed that some devices were able to authenticate the device's biometrics by using a finger that was not even registered to the device. The instances seem isolated, but they pose a serious security flaw with the device. Google is yet to addressed the issue, so it's worth keeping an eye on and withhold purchase until it's cleared if you often find yourself in environements where sensitive info might be exposed. It's arguably Google's most competitively positioned smartphone in a good while and one we can wholeheartedly recommend. The obvious asterisk here is that things stand differently in India where consumers have a huge choice in this price segment and the Pixel 6a's higher price makes it far less tempting.

Whether someone is looking for a device with good performance, good looks, a camera, or shopping on a budget, the Pixel 6a will do everything you can fairly expect of a $749.00 phone and leave you really happy with your purchase.

Google Pixel 6A Review – Small Package, Superb Performance
Source: Cashify English
With the help of the Google Tensor chipset and a top-notch camera, the Google Pixel 6A is in a league of its own at this price range. The attractive design, bright display and improved performance makes this phone more appealing than its predecessor. As it’s a Pixel device, it has one of the best cameras among midrange smartphones and can compete with phones that cost much more. However, with only a 60Hz screen, 18W charging, and a slow fingerprint sensor, the Rs. 43,999 price tag is difficult to justify. However, the fact that it is a Pixel, means that it provides an Android experience that is unparalleled and has a premium feel that you won’t find on any other phone at this price point. Overall, the Google Pixel 6A offers flagship performance and a high-quality camera at a mid-range price, making it an excellent buy.

Google Pixel 6a Camera test
Source: DxOMark English
The Google Pixel 6a is the least expensive model in the Pixel 6 series, featuring slightly less sophisticated camera hardware than the Pixel 6, which uses a larger image sensor in the primary camera module. Like the Pixel 6, it also has to make do without the 6 Pro’s dedicated tele camera. Despite the hardware differences, image rendering is overall very close to the standard Pixel 6, and the 6a comes very close to the impressive score of its sister model in our DXOMARK Camera tests. Test performance is especially close for exposure and color. Hardware limitations are more noticeable in terms of image noise, detail and tele zoom quality. On the plus side, the 6a’s smaller sensor offers a slightly wider depth of field which provides better sharpness on background subjects.

Google Pixel 6a Review: A Refreshing $449 Phone
Source: MrMobile English
If you subscribe to MrMobile, you probably already know that the Pixel 6a is a mid-range version of a well-received smartphone from one of the biggest companies on the planet. But in the week since most reviewers rendered their verdicts, it’s become more than that: now it’s the focal point of a debate about what really matters in smartphones. How you feel about a product will always depend on your particular priorities, but that’s never been more true than it is with this new phone, which is fantastic (as long as you take it for what it is). I’m Michael Fisher and if what you want is a review that doesn’t harp on screen refresh rates for a midrange phone – you may find this video “refreshing” as well. Google Pixel 6a review: an excellent mid-range-price smartphone
Source: Irish Mirror English
Google Pixel 6a is a mid-range smartphone offering the same processor and performance as the company’s flagship phones Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The newly released handset comes in a lighter, slightly smaller, but similar looking, body – all for a cheaper €459 price. As such it’s a similar proposition to Apple’s mid-price iPhone SE 2022 but with a more modern looking design and build. You get plenty of value for your money with this excellent mid-price range smartphone.

93% Google Pixel 6a review: the right way to do a budget phone
Source: Phone Arena English
At the end of the day, with the Pixel 6a Google has followed a different path than most other Android phone makers. Instead of equipping it with a mid-range chip and maxing out the display or focusing on some gimmicky feature, Google has blessed the 6a with a flagship-grade Tensor processor that ensures a fast performance that you rarely find in this price class. This is a winning recipe in our opinion, or at least the lesser of evils (considering that you need to make some compromise in a budget phone). The Pixel 6a does lack some features that you see on flagships like the zoom camera, wireless charging, and it is made of plastic. Biggest among these compromises in our opinion has got to be the lack of a fast refresh rate, but those compromises don't seem as bad as what most other budget phones make. At the end of the day, we would gladly recommend the Pixel 6a to everyone who would appreciate a more compact phone and wants to save a few bucks, but with one caveat: Pixel phones seem to have a reputation for bugs and issues that appear down the road and...

While it's the same price as previous Pixel A-series phones, it utilizes Google's own Tensor SoC, even better camera software, a stunning design, the best haptics on the market, and Google's wonderful Pixel features like call screening and Magic Eraser. The fingerprint sensor is better than the Pixel 6, but it's less responsive than previous Pixel A-series phones. While there's no wireless charging, no headphone jack, and the display is only 60Hz, something had to give to deliver this high-quality of a phone at this price.

The Pixel 6a cuts corners on essentials such as screen of high refresh rate, expandable storage, etc. that one expects in a mid-premium smartphone, yet it turns out to be a strong package lifted by smooth user experience. Google Pixel 6a Review
Source: The Tech Revolutionist English
Most consumers would be attracted to the Google Pixel smartphones because of its minimal, sensible and practical design. For the Google Pixel 6a, it retains the goodness of the Pixel design, while making it more affordable than its bigger brothers. The Google Pixel 6a checks out almost all of what we look out for in a smartphone. It has got a decent OLED display, stereos speakers, good camera system, and flagship performance. While some may consider that the smaller screen size is one of the downside of the smartphone, I’d rather claim that 6.1-inch is just the right size – not too big, not too small. Would I spend SGD749 on the Google Pixel 6a? I think I would. In fact, I’d possibly prefer it over both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, as I think the Pixel 6a is already an all-rounder that fits the needs of a typical smartphone user. Coupled with its handy size and long battery life, there really isn’t much we’ve got to complain about.

The Google Pixel 6a provides nothing short of stellar performance in two areas – software and camera. For the price, this is pretty much the best software and camera experience you can get. Add to that a clean and classy design, moderately powerful hardware with Google’s Tensor chip, and great battery life, and you get a phone that proves to be a solid contender in the Indian smartphone market. However, the phone does have some downfalls – what phone doesn’t? You have a dated 60 Hz refresh rate panel, slightly chunky bezels, some heating issues, and meagre 18 W charging owing to which the ₹43,999 price tag may start to feel less than reasonable.

The Pixel 6a comes in just a single variant that costs at Rs 43,999. In isolation — and perhaps that’s the first reaction of most people — this does seem like a lot of money. Now this is for many reasons: competition from OnePlus, Samsung, Oppo, Nothing, Xiaomi and almost everyone has phones that will fare well better than the Pixel 6a in one aspect or the other. Not the camera for sure. But the Pixel 6a in our opinion is a really good smartphone. You may not get striking colours nor will you get too much RAM. Instead what you get is an Android phone that stays true to its promise like no other phone — guaranteed Android updates, neat and clean user interface, and great software experience. This is the purest Android experience you can get. The camera performance is excellent and the design is something that will grow on you. The other thing that goes heavily in the favour of the Pixel 6 is its size and form factor. It’s almost perfect when it comes to size — not too big and not too small.

Source: The Verge English
The Pixel 6A is a flagship phone with some of the nicer features stripped back — that’s one approach to building a midrange phone. The other approach is to invest a little more in those nice-to-have features, like a fast refreshing screen, but to include a cheaper processor and sacrifice a bit on performance. That’s the route that Samsung took with the Galaxy A53. The road that Google took makes sense to me, at least. The Pixel 6 series phones make a bold statement, from their unusual design to the custom chipset. They’re phones for people who want phones that do really cool stuff. The Galaxy A53 is a little different. It’s for someone who wants the biggest and best display they can get for their money and who doesn’t mind giving up a little bit of processing power to get it. I know which category I fall into, and you probably know where you stand, too. So, if a really big screen isn’t a priority and you (like me) prefer a sensibly sized phone that might actually fit in your pocket, then the 6A is easy to recommend.

Pixel 6a's and Pixel 6's price gap is only S$250 (S$999 vs S$749, respectively). While it doesn't affect extremely budget-conscious customers in considering this handset, it can convince other consumers to top up a little and gun for the flagship variant with all its frills: wireless charging support, a smoother display, and better image processing features. When compared to other upper mid-rangers in the market, not many have image processing capabilities that can rival Google's, or pack perks like Magic Eraser or near-stock Android experiences. That said, there are competent alternatives like the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE as its street price has plummeted and is available starting from S$750, comes with slightly better features, is our current Best High-end Phone recommendation, and more importantly, is available in 128GB and 256GB storage options. The Pixel 6a is only offered with one storage option locally at 128GB and it's not expandable.

Source: The Guardian English
Google is on a roll. After years of good but not great phones, the Pixel 6a is another excellent model bringing the Android-maker’s magic down to a more affordable price. It uses the same recipe that makes Apple’s iPhone SE so good: a mid-range phone with the company’s top chip. That makes the 6a faster than almost any other phone priced at £399 and gives it access to the same features as Google’s flagship phones. The battery life is very good for a smaller phone too. The software is smart and refined, and will be updated for at least five years, which is longer than most rivals. The camera is miles better than any mid-range model, competing with phones twice the price or more. While the back is less premium, plastic not glass, and screen is not as slick as rivals, it still looks great. The smaller size makes it easier to hold too. The Pixel 6a is the best mid-range phone you can buy and a fantastic option if you’re looking for a smaller Android.

There’s a lot to like about the Google Pixel 6a. It falls right in the sweet spot for one-handed use with its 6.1-inch OLED display, but it keeps the Pixel 6 design traits and overall build quality we’ve come to love. The Pixel 6a even incorporates Google’s in-house Tensor chip for the first time. And while it does struggle with sustained performance due to some overheating issues, it’s still a nice kick over the mid-range Snapdragon offerings of past budget Pixels.

Without looking at the two phones side by side, you could almost mistake the Pixel 6A for the Pixel 6. It has the same two-toned design and a black camera bar that stretches horizontally across the back of the phone. I've been using the sage-colored Pixel 6A, which is a darker green than the Pixel 6's minty "sorta seafoam" color. The Pixel 6A's camera strip is also thinner than the Pixel 6's, but they otherwise share a similar look and feel. The Pixel 6A's back panel is made of a "thermoformed plastic composite" according to Google, but it's easy to mistake it for glass. It's one of the few cosmetic differences between the Pixel 6A and Pixel 6, although you can barely tell the difference.

Puzzling battery performance aside, the Pixel 6a is hard to beat if you're looking for a great phone for under $500. The phone has a compelling look, a bright display and better performance than its closest Android archrival, the Galaxy A53. It's once again one of the best camera phones among midrange devices, capable of competing with phones that are much more expensive. And that Tensor chipset means your budget phone is capable of doing much more than the low-cost competition. Really, the Pixel 6a's greatest competition may come from other Google phones. For just $150 more — less if you find one of the best Google Pixel 6 deals — you can pick up the Pixel 6 and get a device with a larger screen and a better camera. (Also slightly better, though still subpar battery life.) You could also wait around until the fall to see if the already-confirmed Google Pixel 7 offers any appealing features beyond a newer Tensor chipset. But if you've been waiting for a great camera phone at a great price, there's no need to wait any longer.

Downsides are the slow charging speeds on a phone that charges hot, the easily scratched rear plastic material, and the 60Hz display lagging behind similarly priced phones. So, in the end, should you buy this phone? If you are after the Pixel experience and don’t want to drop $600 or $900 on your phone, absolutely. If you want the Pixel experience on a smaller phone, this is going to get you there. But I’m not a phone reviewer, so I can’t definitively say that this $449 phone is better than all the competing devices out there. I can’t say it is faster on paper, has a better or worse screen, or is the superior camera when compared to other phones in this price range. But I don’t think I need to. In the end, those even considering this phone are wanting the Pixel experience, and the Pixel 6a delivers it. That much I can assure you of, and if a 60hz screen or the 6.1-inch dimensions don’t turn you off, I’d say you will absolutely love this phone if you’ve been eyeing a Pixel. While it’s not really my cup of tea – I like big phones with high-refresh rates – I think this Pixel will sell like crazy and make a lot of new Pixel users very happy.

For those on a budget and who love the Google Pixel experience, the Pixel 6a is probably going to be a good buy. The $449 price isn’t that competitive in the space, but it is the most affordable Google phone. That price gets you the Pixel 6 design in a smaller, more manageable package, software updates for 5 years, access to Pixel Feature Drops, and a decent set of specs. The Pixel 6a did disappoint somewhat in battery life and the camera, two areas I hoped it would excel. I also can’t get over the choice from Google to go with a 60Hz display, when others in this category are hitting that 120Hz mark. The fingerprint reader is also…ugh. Overall, the Pixel 6a is a phone that fits nicely into Google’s line of phones, at least on paper, but it still fails to check all the boxes we wanted.

At $449, the relatively small Pixel 6a has the potential to be a giant in the mid-tier phone market. Unlike the iPhone SE 2022, it not only has the SoC of its flagship siblings, but it actually looks like them too and offers a pair of rear facing cameras like most modern phones. Samsung’s Galaxy A53 has a number of advantages on paper, but the performance gap tips significantly in the 6a’s favor. The biggest challenge for the Pixel 6a is likely going to be the Pixel 6. I called that phone the “best Android value ever” and I stick by that following the release of the Pixel 6a. Google did an excellent job of bringing a lot of the Pixel 6 DNA into the 6a, but the upgraded cameras, wireless and fast charging, and higher refresh rate display of the Pixel 6 are worth the price difference. And that’s ignoring the fact that you can typically find the Pixel 6 for $549 — and we’ve even seen it dip lower. However, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are coming this fall, so this should be a short-lived problem for the 6a if Google hasn’t overstocked the Pixel 6.

The Pixel 6a's OLED display is very nice and adds to the premium look and feel of the phone. Another potential weak point of the Pixel 6a that sticks with us is its 128GB storage capacity. Given how good the camera system is, we expect that users will take lots of high resolution pictures that could fill up its storage relatively quickly. We hope that Google will offer a 256GB version of the Pixel 6a at some point, but we won't hold our breath. Those gripes aside, we think you get great value for your money with the Pixel 6a, which starts at just $449. That price makes the Pixel 6a half as expensive as some flagship smartphones these days, yet you get more than half the value in return for sure.

80% Google Pixel 6a review: Cheap, small, and packing a big punch
Source: Digital Trends English
Where last year’s Pixel 5a felt like an iterative (and almost pointless) addition to the Pixel a-series family, the Pixel 6a feels like it’s pushing the needle forward for Google. The new design is great, the lightweight/compact body is extremely practical, and the Google Tensor chip enables new performance capabilities and software features that haven’t been possible before. But at the same time, it also doesn’t feel like enough of a change. The display is still 60Hz, wireless charging remains MIA, and Google’s clearly gone in the wrong direction in terms of battery life. It’s expected that the Pixel 6a wouldn’t check every single box for $449, but when the Pixel 6 addresses all of these concerns (and more) for just $599, the Pixel 6a loses some of its value upside. But that certainly doesn’t mean that the Pixel 6a is a bad phone. It’s a really damn good phone. I’m in love with the smaller body, performance is great, the cameras are solid, and Google’s Android 12 software is nearly perfect in my book.

Google Pixel 6a First Impressions: A New Beginning?
Source: NDTV Gadgets English
The Pixel 6a is an interesting smartphone that sports the powerful Google Tensor SoC, which also powers Google's flagship models. The five-year security update commitment from Google is also better than what the competition offers. However, the Pixel 6a does miss out on features such as a high-refresh-rate display, fast charging, and wireless charging. Competing smartphones such as the Xiaomi 11T Pro (Review), OnePlus 10R, and the Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G (Review) are some of the best options we have seen in this price range. Can the Google Pixel 6a take them on? I will be putting the Pixel 6a through its paces in the full review, coming soon.

Google Pixel 6a Review: Changing the mid-range Pixel philosophy
Source: XDA Developers English
In other words, I’m just confused. It feels like Google is a little bit lost when it comes to the execution of the Google Pixel 6a. There are a lot of good ideas, and the idea of a mid-range phone with a good chipset and a great camera is an interesting value proposition, but the company missed the mark in both aspects. Yes, the phone takes amazing photos, but it’s not an “a” series device in the same way previous Pixel “a” devices have been. It’s an older camera and, if the company is trying to pull its flagship chips down to its mid-range phones now too, it’s significantly nerfed in comparison to the primary devices.

82% Google Pixel 6a review: Half the price of Pixel 6 Pro, but just as good
Source: Zdnet.com English
My experience over the last two weeks with the Pixel 6a proves that your phone doesn't need to have the best parts and pieces to provide the best experience. The Pixel 6a is arguably half the phone that the Pixel 6 Pro is, both in specifications and price, and yet, the experiences are nearly identical. If you're shopping for an Android phone and want a reliable, well-rounded phone that's affordable, look no further than the Pixel 6a.

100% Google Pixel 6a review: cut-price camera king
Source: Stuff TV English
Budget-minded Pixels have long been the best of the bunch, and that stays true in ’22. The Pixel 6a is a brilliantly well-rounded phone that continues Google’s track record for killer cameras. Price cuts and sales not permitting, we think it’s now a better buy than the vanilla Pixel 6. It isn’t perfect: similarly-priced Android alternatives have it licked in the display stakes, and you give up luxuries like wireless charging. You also can’t deny the upstart Nothing Phone 1 has more style, even if Google has done a great job distilling the design down from its premium models. Still, you’re getting a heck of a lot of phone for your cash here. Unless you’re prepared to step up to the Pixel 6 Pro and its telephoto camera, this is as streamlined as Google’s vision for Android gets.

90% Google Pixel 6a Review: It might be too good
Source: Mobile Syrup English
At $599, it’s hard to argue that the Pixel 6a isn’t the obvious choice. For the majority of people, I’m not sure you can justify the extra $200 for the Pixel 6 or paying nearly double for the Pixel 6 Pro. Sure, I miss wireless charging and the higher refresh rate screen, but neither of those things are worth $200 to me. I’d say the Pixel 6 camera hardware is worth paying more, but $200 more is a stretch. Coupled with the positives I noted throughout the review – Tensor, similar performance to the 6/6 Pro, software goodies, the smaller size that fits better in my hand – the Pixel 6a really feels like a better phone for me than the Pixel 6. I’m worried the 6a might even be too good for the price. At the same time, I’m not sure it’s the best value hands down. In the Pixel line and larger Android world, I think it’s a contender. However, I’d be remiss not to mention Apple’s new iPhone SE ($579 in Canada), which offers much more power thanks to the A15 chip. I’d argue the 6a offers a better camera and more modern design than the SE,...

80% Google Pixel 6a review: super yet superfluous?
Source: T3 English
The Google Pixel 6a is a model example of a small-screen Android phone – and I think its size is the key selling point. However, the older Pixel 6 from 2021 doesn't really cost much more and will suit a wider audience really. Still, if you're looking for a handset that's small, full of great features, is long-lasting per charge, and clearly among the best Android has to offer, then the Pixel 6a is just the ticket.

Google Pixel 6a

The Google Pixel 6A is undoubtedly the latest to join the market out there. In terms of its design, if one is familiar with the new look Google unveiled with its Pixel 6 phones, then the Pixel 6a holds no surprises. Just like its sibling phones, this model’s back features the same two-tone design with a horizontal camera bar separating the brighter top portion from the more expansive muted colour. However, in the case of the Pixel 6a, the user gets to choose from Chalk, Charcoal and Sage colour variants. When the phone is flipped over, it is a slightly smaller version of the regular Pixel 6, right down to the thin bezel surrounding its display and the punch-hole cut-out for the selfie camera in the centre top of the screen. At a dimension of 6 x 2.8 x 0.35 inches, the Pixel 6a is a little more compact than its 6.2 x 2.9 x 0.4-inch bigger sibling. It is definitely a great that Google continues to use OLED panels for its lower-cost Pixel A phones when makers of comparably priced handsets often turn to LCD. This is due to the fact that OLEDs offer deeper blacks and better contrast, and that comes through while watching video or playing games on the Pixel 6a's 6.1-inch display.

In terms of its camera setup, the Pixel 6a still maintains the two-camera setup that the Pixel 5a used, but there is a step back in the number of megapixels found on the ultra-wide angle lens. While the 6a uses a 12MP sensor, the Pixel 5a opted for a 16MP sensor. However, it is worth mentioning that the sensor itself is larger this time around, so the Pixel 6a is likely to let in more light its ultra-wide angle lens is turned on. On the other hand, the main shooter still uses a 12.2MP sensor. It is definitely undeniable that some might be disappointed by the camera specs on the Pixel 6a, considering how Google beefed up the hardware on the Pixel 6 line-up. However, Google's photo-processing powers shine when the portrait mode on the Pixel 6a has been tested.

While it is quite known that Google has started making its own chipsets to power its mobile devices, it is now the Pixel 6a's turn to make the same move to Tensor that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro did last fall. In a nutshell, the goal behind Google's silicon is to specifically include cores dedicated to compute-intensive AI tasks or in other words, the kind of on-device translation and dictation features that make the Pixel experience stand out from other Android phones. With the focus being on AI and machine learning, blazing performance is not necessarily at the top of Tensor's to-do list. Overall, it is a great phone to be explored, depending on the need and preference of the user.
