The Dell XPS 15 9560, the much-awaited update to the XPS 15 9550, is finally up for order through Dell. The 9560 update brings Kaby Lake CPUs, Nvidia GTX 1050 graphics, fingerprint scanning, and Windows Hello support to everyone's favorite thin-and-light desktop replacement laptop.

The highly-anticipated update to Dell's award-winning XPS 15 line is here, and the newest model of the world's-smallest 15-inch notebook is now available for order from Dell's website. The configurations start from US$999.99 (and go up to US$2549.99) and are estimated to ship in 13-17 days after ordering.

Notable changes in the 9560 include Kaby Lake CPUs, GTX 1050 GPU, a larger battery (97 WHr) an integrated fingerprint sensor, and a Windows Hello compatible camera. The wireless card has also been swapped from a Broadcom 1830 to a Killer 1535, which should be more reliable. Compared to the previous-generation 9550, you can expect up to 5-10% better CPU performance, 45% better GPU performance, and around 30-60 minutes more battery life.

Unfortunately, the configurations available from Dell are not very flexible. If you want the 97 Whr battery, for example, the cheapest you can get is the FHD/i5/8/256GB model for US$1649.99. If you want the i7, FHD, and 97 WHr battery, you will have to shell out US$1749.99 for the configuration with 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD. The 4K touch display will add another US$300 to that price—it would have nice if Dell would let their customers configure their machines as desired.
