Dacia Spring returns with a 65 HP motor, a new design, and improved digital features
Launched in 2021, Dacia Spring managed to be the third most popular electric car among non-corporate users in 2022 and 2023. Until now, over 140,000 such vehicles by Renault-owned Romanian brand Dacia were registered worldwide. However, these vehicles are made at Dongfeng in Wuhan, China. After a brand refresh in 2022 that affected all Dacia products and the introduction of the 65 HP (48 kW) motor option last year, Dacia Spring now receives its first major update.
According to the official press release, the new Dacia Spring "passes another milestone, taking those qualities that made it a success to the next level" although there is no power or range increase involved. However, the new motor is described as "more accessible." The car comes with a redesigned interior and a renewed exterior inspired by the Duster SUV while maintaining almost the same dimensions. On the bright side, the storage space goes from 290 litres to 308 litres.
Although it failed to shine in crash tests, the Dacia Spring received the maximum 5-star rating from the independent European organisation Green NCAP for its energy efficiency and carbon footprint. Mostly used for short daily trips inside crowded cities, the Dacia Spring averages 37 km per day covered at 37 kmh, according to the data collected via the car's integrated digital system. Unsurprisingly, most of its users (75%) charge the Dacia Spring at home.
The pricing depends on the retailer, local rebates for EVs (or the lack of such incentives), and options chosen (a 15-inch wheels option is now available). For now, the Spring remains "the most affordable full-electric model on the market," claims Dacia.
Dacia Spring fans can get this 1:43 scale model for $24.85 from Amazon.
