If you were young in the early days of the Sony PlayStation, the game Croc Legend of the Gobbos will ring a bell. The game puts players in the shoes of a small crocodile travelling through Gobbo Island, solving puzzles, rescuing small creatures known as Gobbos, and finding collectibles as you go.
Croc Legend of the Gobbos is the heartwarming journey of an endearing, humble little crocodile equipped with only his iconic backpack and a wiggly butt as he platforms his way across a series of unique worlds by running, jumping, climbing, swimming and tail spinning on his quest to rescue his adopted family of Gobbos from the grasp of the evil sorcerer Baron Dante and his impish Dantini hordes.
While Croc Legend of the Gobbos has been out on GOG since April 2025, it is finally getting a release on Steam. Pricing is unclear at the time of writing, but the game is priced at $29.99 on GOG. Similarly, the Steam release date has not yet been officially announced, but there is a fully fleshed-out Steam page with the release date listed as "Coming soon." GOG's puts Croc's play time at around 6–10 hours, depending on how much of the content you want to play, but the game is full of fun little environmental puzzles, hidden collectibles, and that good old '90s retro charm.
The response on r/Games on Reddit seems to be quite positive, with a lot of people remembering the game fondly as the first game they had ever played. Others comment that, while it is a very easy game, the remastered version improves on many of the clunky gameplay elements of the original version.
There are also commenters noting that the wider release is a good signal that there are still developers and publishers interested in preserving older games and video game history in general, which is all the more relevant these days, thanks to the Stop Killing Games movement.
Croc Legend of the Gobbos should match well with gaming handhelds, like the Lenovo Legion Go S (curr. $589.99 on Amazon).
