Bowers & Wilkins newest pair of over-ear noise cancelling headphones is the Px7 S3. They are not its flagship headphones as that title is reserved for the Px8; however, the Px7 S3 still falls under the premium headphones umbrella.
The Px7 S3 have been redesigned to differentiate them from the Px7 S2e (curr. available on Amazon for $399). The headband still has a fabric finish but Bowers & Wilkins says it has been refined to be comfortable for extended listening time. Also, the earcups are slimmer for a sleeker design and now sport a grille that goes around the entire cup. The physical controls have also been moved to the outer part of the earcups and the headphones are now a few grams lighter.
In terms of features, the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 still use 40mm full range bio cellulose drivers like the previous generations, but it is reported that they have been redesigned, resulting in “lower coloration and distortion, improved resolution, and superior dynamics”. The manufacturer also claims that it delivers richer detail, deeper bass, and better clarity than the Px7 S2e.
The Px7 S3 has a high-performance DSP with a dedicated amplifier/DAC, 24-bit audio, a 5-band customizable EQ, Bluetooth 5.3 with support for aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX Classic, AAC, and SBC codecs. There are now 8 microphones in total — two more than those on the Px7 S2e — for better noise cancellation and clearer calls. The battery life remains unchanged at 30 hours but a quick 15-minute charge will provide up to 7 hours of usage.
The Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 have a price tag of $429 and will be available to buy in Canvas White, Anthracite Black, and Indigo Blue. The pair of headphones will come with a carry case, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and a USB-C to 3.5mm cable included in the box. There is no info yet on when they will be available to buy.
