German car manufacturers are continuously expanding their lineup of electric cars. BMW is now rumored to work on an all-electric i7 version of its upcoming 7 Series four-door flagship sedan, which could give Tesla and the Model S a run for its money.

The Bavarian auto maker BMW is rumored to further expand its line of electric cars in late 2022, following the greater trend of the automobile industry to incorporate more fully electric and thereby low-emission powertrains. The BMW 7 Series full-size luxury sedan will soon receive a major overhaul, and it is expected that it will also be offered as an all-electric BMW i7. After the discontinuation of the production of the BMW i8, the new i7 will apparently serve as BMW's new flagship electric car.

AutoExpress has now released concept images that give a great impression of the design of the new BMW 7 Series, including its narrow and futuristic headlights and the larger kidney-shaped grill in the front. The BMW i7 will most likely be equipped with the fifth generation of BMW's eDrive electric powertrain, which is already featured in the BMW i4 and the BMW iX. It is further expected that the BMW i7 could inherit the 105kWh battery that is found in the iX as well.

If these rumors turn out to be true, the BMW i7 could boast a maximum range of around 700 kilometers (435 miles) since it should be more aerodynamic and also lighter than the brawny BMW iX SUV. Of course, the upcoming BMW 7 Series will also be offered with traditional internal combustion engines as well as a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The selection of available engines will vary by location. In the United States, the BMW i7 will most likely have a sticker price of close to US$100,000.
