It has been almost four years since Barnes & Noble released the Nook GlowLight 4 e-reader. While some may say it is long overdue for a successor, the American book retailer doesn't think so. Instead, it has decided to release the Kindle rival in a new color.
When the Nook GlowLight 4 was announced in December 2021, it was available in Black. However, in 2022, it released a Pearl Pink limited edition with a white front and a pink back. That variant sold out in a few months after its release, but was restocked again in 2023. Unfortunately, Barnes & Noble no longer sells this color.
Now, the GlowLight 4 is getting a new color called Ocean Teal, which is sort of similar to the Metallic Jade Amazon Kindle Scribe (2024) (available on Amazon for $449.99). The front, sides, and back of the GlowLight 4 Ocean Teal Edition are the same color, unlike the Pearl Pink limited edition. Save for the new color, nothing has changed. It even has the same $149.99 price tag as the black version.
The Nook GlowLight 4 has a 6-inch E-Ink display with a 300 ppi. The display is sunken, unlike the GlowLight 4 Plus, which has a flush screen. However, it is protected by a screen protector that reduces glare and is scratch and fingerprint-resistant.
It also has physical page-turn buttons, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a USB-C port. There's 32GB of storage on the GlowLight 4, but no MicroSD card slot; while its battery is advertised as providing up to a month of use on a single charge.
The Nook GlowLight 4 Ocean Teal Edition is available to pre-order now for $149.99, ahead of its release on November 20.
