Asus’ Windows 7 Tablet now shipping from Amazon.com

One of the more intriguing tablets out there, the Asus Eee Slate has been available for pre-order since January 5th on Amazon.com. However, reports indicate that the EP121 has finally begun shipping and can be had now.

The Eee Slate is one of the few tablets running Windows 7, but it is also one of the few tablets to have a full blown Dual Core processor. The EP121 is powered by a Dual Core Intel i5-470um, 2GB or 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 32GB or 64GB SSD, Bluetooth 3.0, and Wi-Fi. The Core i5 processor isn’t the only thing setting the Slate apart from other tablets, as it features a 12.1” display with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. The display also has an electromagnetic panel with a stylus, allowing for precise input.

One disappointing feature of the slate is that its battery power is only 2.4 hours to 4.5 hours according to Asus. The reported battery life could bring sales down, as most costumers purchase tablets with mobility in mind. The EP121 will run Windows 7 OS and also includes 2 USB ports, mini-HDMI, and weighs 1.6 KG.

The Asus tablet starts off at a price of $999 for the 32 GB version and only $100 more for the 64 GB version. However it seems to have sold quickly, as Amazon.com is already listing the Eee Slate as “Temporarily out of stock”.
