90% Asus Eee PC 1000 HE In Depth Review

I believe this is the best netbook that is available for sale in the market today. Asus has placed a lot of nice things here and there on the device, such as one-click access to Skype, one customizable key for a program of your choice, scrolling through various resolutions and various performance levels (Super High, Reduced and Power Saver). With all the items we have seen above, I cannot see any competitor against 1000 HE.

Put the Eee PC 1000HE next to Asus' latest Seashell models, and it looks overweight. Get past its portly visage, though, and there's plenty to like. Asus may not have produced anything exceptional with the 1000HE, but at just $645 its modest achievements are still remarkable. It's a solid, well-built all-rounder with only one problem: the 1005HA.

voAlthough this is yet another 10-inch Eee PC from Asus, it’s actually quite an update. Okay the specs on the indside aren’t as exciting as they could have been, but it looks stunning, and lasts sooooooooo long that you’ll be surprised when you do have to finally plug it in for a charge. It’s a shame that it’s so heavy, and where’s the 3G, eh Asus? But we can put up with those little grumbles, because we want this sexy, little beast with more stamina than the Duracell Bunny sitting on our lap.

The Asus 1000HE performed really great with its intended purpose. The new keyboard is a good improvement and the battery life is outstanding. Even though the 3DMark and PCMark scores were really low it was still able to play a 480p video without any trouble. I think this is a very viable option for anyone looking for a Netbook and you don’t have to shell out a lot of money to get one. The Asus 1000HE can be found on Amazon for only $374.95.

Eee equals battery power squared
Source: Star Techcentral English Archive.org version
The Eee PC 1000HE is certainly a worthy addition to the series — Asus has tweaked parts that need improving (like the keyboard and battery) and kept others that worked. Also, at RM1,599, it is cheaper and better than the similar Eee PCs that was released last year, making it quite an attractive buy. However, Asus should have redesigned the casing to be a little smaller to fit the 10in screen, or conversely, enlarged the screen to perhaps about 11in to fill the space now occupied by the large bezel. Other than that, this 1000HE is still a winner and certainly one to consider if you don’t mind the slightly larger size compared with its competitors.

Our other minor gripe is the 1000HE's price -- list $399, with a street price running about $380. That's not the most costly in the netbook universe, especially considering that the Eee includes Bluetooth as well as WiFi wireless (and more robust 802.11b/g/n rather than mere 802.11b/g WiFi, too). But with Acer positioning the 11.6-inch Aspire One at $380 and other rivals offering 10-inch models at $349, $329, or even $299, we wouldn't be surprised to see Asus trim the 1000HE's sticker in the near future. (The company says it'll sell the Seashell for $430.) Such a cut could help the 1000HE stay where it at least arguably belongs: with its picture in the dictionary under "netbook." Except for the universal flaw of poor graphics performance, it's the state of the art.

Asus - Eee PC 1000HE review
Source: IT Reviews English Archive.org version
Asus was responsible for launching the Eee PC phenomenon onto the world, and the company has not stopped trying to innovate. The Eee PC 1000HE comes with a purported 9.5 hours of battery life, which is a stunning claim indeed. Asus is proving that there is plenty of life in the Eee PC format yet. The 1000HE is pricey but its specifications are high end. We just wish Asus had been a little more realistic with its battery life claim, which we found good but not as great as suggested.

Even the though the 1000HE has many similarities with some of Asus’ older models, it is one of the most capable netbooks on the market right now. Choosing between the top four, or so, devices–of which the 1000HE is one–largely comes down to price and personal preference. The 1000HE is neither the cheapest nor the lightest option at the moment, but it isn’t as expensive as some other models, it’s easy to upgrade, it doesn’t skimp on features like VGA-out (like the Mini 1000), and it includes the N280 processor. Overall, it’s a great netbook and one that is worth considering if you are planning to use your netbook more than sporadically.

Review: Asus Eee PC 1000HE Netbook
Source: Notebooks.com English Archive.org version
I’ve previously called the Asus 1000HE netbook one of the best values in the netbook market in terms of bang per buck but I had to try it out myself to see if it actually lives up to my expectations. I’ve now had the opportunity to live with the Asus 1000HE for about a month and I’ve performed a good deal of testing on it to see how it performs in common tasks that one would expect a netbook to perform. For a typical street price of $375 to $399, the Asus 1000HE netbook simply can’t be beat in terms of value. It is one of the best netbooks on the market at any price. The netbook is a bit bulky compared to other 8.9″ netbooks with 3-cell batteries but you don’t need to carry your charger with you and the bigger size screen and track pad is a welcome change in netbook design. You can’t put it in a large coat pocket like the Sony Vaio P but the Vaio costs $900+ and has horrible battery life and a tiny display.

The Eee PC 1000HE from Asus is the latest addition to the firm's line-up of low-cost netbooks. With a 10in display, larger keyboard and larger battery than many earlier models, the new system should prove more attractive for those seeking a lightweight PC that can be used for longer periods while on the move. The Asus Eee PC 1000HE stands out from the mini laptop crowd thanks to an impressive battery life and a decent keyboard for typing. The battery pushes up the weight to about 1.45kg, but this model is a good choice for those needing the option to work while away from mains power.

Asus netbook comes with 9.5-hour battery, but can it really last all day? We loved the first Eee when it tipped up a few eons ago, mainly because there was nothing else out there like it. Giving up on the SSD has meant the latest Eees have all the storage space you need on the move and Asus has also made sure to keep the price as close to the £300 mark as possible. If you've already got a 9"-10" netbook then there's little here that upgrading your existing battery wont give you, but if you're in the market for a machine that wont break the bank, and will last you a full working day, then we reckon we've maybe got a new netbook champ.

Asus Eee PC 1000HE, the ‘nine hour netbook’
Source: APC Mag English Archive.org version
Leave the AC adaptor at home! Blitzing past seven hours with Wi-Fi and reaching nine hours sans wireless, this $900 netbook has battery life to shame notebooks twice the price. Finally, with a profile that’s 1.4 inches at its thickest point, the 1000HE is a tad chunkier than you’d expect from a netbook. Ditto for the 1.45 kg weight compared to HP’s Mini 1000 (1.13 kg), the HP Mini 2140 and Lenovo IdeaPad S10 (both 1.2 kg)  and Dell’s forthcoming Inspiron Mini 10 (1.3 kg).

It's a nice mini-laptop, the Eee 1000HE: eminently capable, with a good keyboard, the latest Atom, 802.11n Wi-Fi and plenty of storage space for which you're not really sacrificing resilience - given the 1000HE's size and weight, it's inherently not the chuckabout netbook a 9in SSD model might be. The screen's a tad too dark but, crucially, it's got that enormous battery life. Asus retakes the lead - provided punters get the same battery reviewers do. Your move, Samsung.

The ASUS Eee PC 1000HE is a bit bulky compared to some “premium” and more expensive netbooks, but all in all you get a lot more for your money with the Eee compared to other brands. Its keyboard and trackpad are very comfortable to use, and the system is very well built. The best part, however, is the 7+ hours of battery life you can squeeze out of it, which is way better than average.

The £300+ price tag will automatically put the Asus Eee PC 1000HE out of the reach of many netbook buyers, but if you don’t mind the cost it has an awful lot going for it. While we couldn’t match the 9 hour battery life, this machine still provides the most mobility we’ve seen from a netbook, and the impressive keyboard also provides excellent usability. A great all-rounder, the only real downside is the bulky chassis.

Asus 1000he Review
Source: Student Buying Guide English Archive.org version
The Asus Eee PC 1000he is certainly one of the top contenders in the netbook category.  It’s excellent battery life of over 7 hours, nice design, usable keyboard and sizeable enough screen all make it a winner.  The drawbacks might be the fact there is no ExpressCard slot and then of course the obvious limitations of every netbook – lack of power for more demanding tasks and a low resolution screen.  For the price I paid, $374 at Amazon.com, you really can’t go too wrong.  If you’re looking for a netbook to use for taking to class and using around campus as a companion PC for those times you are away from your home desktop PC or don’t want to lug around a larger sized notebook, the Asus 1000he could be right for you.

Asus deserves credit for practically inventing the Netbook market with its original 7-inch Eee PC, and its 9- and 10-inch follow-ups. In the year-and-a-half since then, other companies have done much to add functionality (ExpressCard slots on the Lenovo S10) and refine the design (the big keyboard on the HP Mini 1000), leaving the original Eee PCs looking a little dated. Asus practically invented the Netbook market, and the Eee PC 1000HE is an overdue overhaul that offers a new CPU and great battery life, but misses some of the competition's bells and whistles.

Asus Eee PC 1000HE Netbook Evaluation
Source: Hot Hardware English Archive.org version
All things considered, we think the Asus Eee PC 1000HE is a surefire top-seller at just under $400. Windows XP Home runs perfectly smooth in everyday scenarios, and even when pushed, this machine responded admirably. Of course, you should realize that the 1000HE, like any netbook, has its limitations. However, so long as you don't expect to play back 1080p movie trailers or fire up Crysis, you should be pleasantly surprised. Let's put it this way, if someone had $400 or so today that they were looking to invest in a netbook, we can't think of recommending anything other than the 1000HE currently. It simply outdoes the rest of the machines in its price range, in terms of performance, usability and battery life. We're giving it an Editor's Choice award without hesitation.

The ASUS Eee PC 1000HE is more than just a small upgrade of their 1000 series netbooks. The system does include the new Intel Atom N280 although it doesn't really boost performance over the older N270. The real improvements come from the large six cell battery that give it amazing long running time and the redesigned keyboard that puts the right shift key in a more logical place. With its attractice price tag, 802.11n wireless and Bluetooth, this certainly is a very feature rich netbook even if it weight over three pounds.

The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is a slightly tweaked version of the Eee PC 1000H. The 'E' in the name stands for 'extended', referring to an improved battery pack that lasts a claimed 9.5 hours. The 1000HE also features a new Intel Atom N280 CPU and a brand new keyboard with isolated keys -- changes that make the machine faster and easier to use than equivalent netbooks. The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is the best netbook so far for people who travel often. Its stunning battery life eclipses that of all its rivals, its keyboard is good enough to touch type with, and it looks good, too. We're in love, as should you be.

Evaluating netbooks can be a bit of minefield. This is mainly due to the spectre of new technology hanging over the sector; be it a new Atom processor and platform with 720p video decoding, the much sought after dual-core Atom or VIA's Nano, there always seems to be something over the horizon that might warrant delaying one's purchase. If you're after a netbook with the best possible battery life, the Eee PC 1000HE definitely has you covered and should be seriously considered. However, in terms of design and usability it lags behind some of its cheaper rivals and with new models bound to materialise soon, it doesn't quite do enough to make it a must buy.

The streamlined and redesigned Asus Eee PC 1000HE is a slick netbook that takes no prisoners. While the previous Asus Eee PC 1000 offered a solid netbook, Acer's Aspire One stole all the attention with its lean and incredibly affordable approach. With the latest incarnation of the Eee PC 1000, the "HE" might as well stand for "Holy Enhancement!" The Asus Eee PC 1000HE bears only a passing resemblance to last year's Eee PC, and improves upon just about everything from the keyboard to the CPU. The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is a fairly solid - and sizable - jump over what's come out just a few months earlier, and is well worth a look.

ASUS made some good improvements to the 1000HE, most notably the newer keyboard. The keyboard is more comfortable to type on over the old style and the improved spacing helps to reduce typing errors. The design has few changes, with some areas gaining glossy paint over a matte finish before, but the average user might not tell the difference unless both were sitting next to each other. The newer Intel Atom processor with a faster clock speed and faster bus speed had little improvement in our benchmarks over its predecessor and HD content is still unfeasible unless you are playing low bitrate videos.

ASUS is well into double digits in the number of netbook variants it has launched, and this seasoning has finally paid off with its best one yet. What's more, the ASUS EeePC 1000HE ($400 street) dethrones the MSI Wind as the leader of the pack of pint-sized laptop wannabes. What puts it on top is not its use of the first-ever Intel Atom N280 processor or its elegantly tucked-away six-cell battery, or even its revamped keyboard. In a category where price sensitivity is paramount, the 1000HE is the new Editors' Choice because it delivers all of these things at a low price. The ASUS EeePC 1000HE is the best netbook package that money can buy right now.

With the Eee PC 1000HE, ASUS offers one of the best values in netbooks around. This system features a vastly improved keyboard, and its trackpad and touch buttons are better than most systems in its class. Although the processor doesn’t add much in the way of performance, we’ll take it. More important, the 1000HE lasts more than 7 hours on a charge. In the field of sub-$500 netbooks, the $399 Eee PC 1000HE is a very good choice. Ultimately, we prefer the Samsung NC10 because it offers an even better keyboard and a thinner and lighter design, even though it costs $50 more and its battery doesn’t last quite as long. Others may prefer the 10-inch Acer Aspire One, which costs only $349 (although we don’t yet know the final battery runtime). It’s a bit bulky, but buyers will be happy with this attractive, good-performing, and long-lasting Eee PC.

The Asus Eee PC 1000HE doesn't mess with success—it just tweaks it. This updated $399 netbook builds on the design of the popular Eee PC 1000H by improving the keyboard (goodbye, misplaced right-Shift key!) and offering enhanced battery life as well as a mild performance boost. In many ways, the 3.2-pound Eee PC 1000HE is very similar to its predecessor. It has a fingerprint-attracting glossy black shell, a 160GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, Windows XP Home Edition, and a 10.1-inch, 1,024x600-pixel LCD. The only external difference, other than a reshaped underside, is the keyboard. The best Eee PC yet, Asus has tweaked the 1000HE to near-perfection.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is an integrated (onboard) graphic chip on Mobile Intel 945GM chipset. It is a faster clocked version of the GMA 900 and supports no hardware T&L (Transform & Lightning) accelleration (which is required for some games).

These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.

Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).

N280:

Power efficient, cheap and slow Netbook single core CPU. Because of the in-order execution, the performance per MHz is worse than Core Solo or Celeron M processors. Compared to the N270, the N280 is only minimally higher clocked and offers a higher FSB.

10.20":

This is a standard display format for tablet computers or small convertibles. You see more on the screen than on a smartphone but you can't use big resolutions well. On the other hand, mobility is not a problem.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.

Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.

Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.

Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.

81.79%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
