Amazon tablet to sell for $299 or less?

Teaser
Amazon might be able to give the tablets in less than market price and still break even quickly

There have been fierce rumors about an Amazon tablet on the cards. Things have started to fall in place and now there have been confirmations from reliable sources that the slate might come to the market this fall. The New York post reports say that the tablet might launch at $299 or even less – about $200 less to start with than the iPad.

Now Amazon sure won’t give you a throwaway tablet – their brand image depends on it. So if actually the price gets that low, Amazon might have some strategy in place. Liliputing thinks it actually be the perfect bundled products for you. With the tablet, one has access to all the Amazon content, free or paid – like the Amazon Appstore for Android apps, Amazon MP3 music service, Kindle eBook store and others. This, if combined with a mobile plan – can give Amazon the profit from auxiliary purchases.

There can be another possibility though. The $299 tablet might end up being more of a “tablet eReader” rather than a heavyweight one with fast processor and memory. Even if this is not true, this could very well be the starting price for a whole series with a number of variants. Whatever it is, the brand Amazon and an extremely competitive price-tag will surely bite off some share of that apple!
