Amazon tablet may be only $349 at launch

New rumors surface suggesting cheaper-than-expected prices for the unannounced Amazon tablets

The imminent Amazon tablet has yet to be made official, but rumors detailing the device continue to roll along week after week. The latest rumor comes from sources close to PCMag, which claim to have knowledge of the Amazon tablet launch prices.

According to the supposedly trustworthy source, the Amazon tablet will come in two flavors, a 7-inch model and a 10-inch model, as reported weeks prior. The smaller model could be launching at a price of just $349, while the 10-inch model would be 100$ more at $449. If true, these Android tablets would be extremely competitive in the market, especially when considering that the 7-inch and 10-inch models could come with Tegra 2 and Kal-El processors, respectively.

In terms of launch dates, both tablets are not expected to be available simultaneously.  Nvidia’s Kal-El has yet to reach tablets, so mass production of the 10-inch model could be delayed in order to shift focus on development of the 7-inch model. If Amazon wanted to take advantage of the holiday season, it would be wise to release at least one model sometime during November, just in time for Black Friday in the U.S. A $349 Tegra 2-equipped tablet during the holiday season should get plenty of heads turning.
