Amazon CEO hints towards a tablet that won’t be infringing on existing Kindle territory

Rumors of an Amazon tablet came out of the blue last month, but the device is now seeming more and more likely. After hearing reports that Quanta actually received orders from Amazon, we now actually have word straight from the lion’s den.

In an interview conducted by Consumer Reports with Jeff Bezos, the Amazon CEO said to stay tuned” when directly asked about the possibility of an Amazon tablet. Mr. Bezos restrained himself from giving out any further details about the device, but did state that any such enterprise would likely complement the Amazon Kindle rather than replace it.

In addition, the Amazon boss had some disappointing news about color E-Ink devices and their future. It seems color E-Ink technology won’t be coming soon, as the technology “is not ready for prime time” due to the colors being too pale. However, it was acknowledged that low-power color displays would definitely be something that “you could build a fantastic product around”,  so we’re hopeful for the future of color E-readers.
