The business-oriented analog of Acer's Ferrari 1100, the TravelMate 6292 shares many of the same features as its flashier sibling but wraps them in a slightly thicker, boxier case that's better suited for boardrooms. One key difference: The TravelMate 6292 incorporates Intel's latest Core 2 Duo platform, which resulted in a performance boost on our multimedia multitasking benchmarks. More full-featured and also heavier than most ultraportables, the business-oriented Acer TravelMate 6292 offers solid performance and great battery life at a low price.

Acer's Travelmate 6292-301G16MN - a nice catchy name, that - is one of the smaller members of Acer's well loved business notebook range, and is at the upper edge of what you would call an ultraportable laptop, weighing in at 2.6kg (including AC adapter). Acer's Travelmate 6292-301G16MN is a no-nonsense, highly portable, corporate notebook. It doesn't really stand out in any department but it goes about its business without any fuss or bother. Sometimes that's all you need.

Even though Acer's Acer TravelMate 6292 doesn't look as sophisticated as the most recent Aspire, it's perfectly suited to business users or those needing a lightweight, durable and highly portable option. The draft n connectivity is useful, and the Acer TravelMate 6292 offers plenty of power and a high level of performance.

Pros: Build quality; great performance; internal DVD writer; webcam; Cons: Heavier and chunkier than the Lenovo X60; poor gaming performance; Overall: The Travelmate 6292 packs quite a punch for such a compact chassis and has a great mix of multimedia

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100 is an integrated (onboard) graphic chip on a Mobile Intel 965GM chipset. It is the successor of GMA 950 and features a fully programmable pipeline (supports Aero Glass fully and DirectX 10 with newest drivers). The peformance of the X3100 is clearly better than the GMA 950, still demanding modern games won't run fluently.
These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).
The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.
T7100: Entry level to mid-range (at the time of annoucement) dual core processor based on the Merom core.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

This range of display format is largely the upper limit for tablets and the lower limit for subnotebooks.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small in size and therefore easily portable. The tiny display has the added advantage of requiring little power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is exhausting for the eyes. High resolutions, which one is used to from a standard laptop, are almost not usable.
The same applies to tablets in this size range.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
78%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
