Premium features without the premium price? The most surprising aspect of this machine is just how much it offers for the money. We were already impressed with the high-end models, but now it’s also possible for those on a budget to get an incredibly well-specified multimedia centre. Mobility still remains a low point, with a very poor battery life and bulky chassis, but it’s well worth a look if you’re after an affordable Blu-ray laptop.

Priced at a very wallet-friendly $999, the Acer Aspire 6930-6723 provides an excellent all-around multimedia experience for the movie buff, music fan, or gamer. Granted, a full 1080p display would be the optimal resolution for a system with an integrated Blu-ray drive, but even without it, the Acer Aspire 6930G-6723 is a winner.

80% Acer Aspire AS6930-6073 16-inch Thin and Light Laptop PC
Source: Comp Reviews English
Acer's Aspire AS6930-6073 may be a bit heavy and larger than many competing 16-inch laptops, but the $900 price tag and excellent feature list make this a very attractive laptop for those wanting a laptop with good performance, dedicated graphics at a very reasonable price. The biggest complaint has to be the software setup with its fair amount of trailware and odd partitioning that can fixed with some effort after purchase.

Acer reviews

These cards should be able to display all current games with fluent framerates but not all with high detail settings. Especially demanding games like Crysis, Age of Conan, or Mass Effect are only playable with lower settings. Less demanding (and older) games, like Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, or Battlefield 2142 can be played with higher detail levels.

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS: Slower clocked 9600M GT and therefore a bit slower and cooler. In conjunction with an 9100M the 9600M GS is able to use HybridPower to save current.

Lower end of Graphics Cards for users who want to play games. New games should run on these cards, but only with decreased details and mediocre resolution.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Onboard (shared Memory) GPU built in the GM45, GE45 and GS45 chipset (Montevina). Because of two more shaders and a higher core clock, much faster than the old GMA X3100. Still not advisable for gamers (DirectX 10 games not playable or only with very low settings). The integrated video processor is able to help decode HD videos (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , e.g., for a fluent Blu-Ray playback with slow CPUs.

>> Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).

The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.

P8400:

Middle class dual core CPU with a TDP of 25 Watt. For high end gamer the performance could be not sufficient (for class 1 graphic cards).

16.0: 16 inch display-variants exist since 2008 and partially got the market share of 15 inch notebooks. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.

>> To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

3.4 kg:

This laptop is heavy below average, compared with the average of notebooks. Therefore especially desktop replacements fit in this class of weight.

3.8 kg:

77.14%: This rating is not convincing. It must be considered, that there exist hardly any laptops, which receive a rating below 60%. This notebook is evaluated below average, this is not really a recommendation for purchase.
