Tesla has been toying around with that emblem of a modern vehicle, the light bar, since, well, the Cybertruck, which has one LED strip across the proverbial hood, and one on the tailgate.
The new 2025 Model Y is now continuing that tradition, and, since the R&D team at Tesla China took a part in its design, now features signature light bars all around, and ambient LED lighting.
Tesla insists that the rear light bar on the Model Y Juniper refresh is not like all those other light bars that are in abundance everywhere, especially on vehicles from Chinese brands.
It claims that the facelift's "single, cross-car lamp is the first indirect reflective body panel taillight of its kind," and it has a point as the light bounces off the trunk gate finish below it, and even reflects from the road surface in a rather unorthodox manner.
All the light bars and colored ambient cabin lighting make for a rather impressive 2025 Model Y light show, during which one thing is becoming clear. The front light bar on the Juniper refresh can be switched off, it seems.
Tesla apparently has deliberately made the front light bar interrupted, as it integrated the turn signals, which are activated via a physical stalk behind the steering wheel, in the sides of the light bar.
The midsection, however, which spans across the hood that covers a new frunk equipped with a drain plug, can be switched off.
Thus, those who hate the LED light bars that are proliferating on modern vehicles, can buy a 2025 Model Y knowing full well that all that illumination can be toned down if they wish, and only come up during the rather impressive light shows that Tesla is now able to pull off with the new Juniper refresh that is already on sale in the US and will be released in March.
