Moto X features revealed

Teaser
Motorola's newest smartphone is always listening

Motorola's first smartphone since becoming a Google company has been attracting a lot of attention. Ads so far are promising something we've never seen before. Now, we get a first look at the Moto X in action.

The attached video is an ad for the Moto X that will be exclusive to Rogers Wireless in Canada. Strangely enough, there is no sign of the X anywhere on Rogers' own website yet. Apparently the new device is always listening. It can be trained to respond to its owner's voice and can provide information (through Google Now) or perform nearly all of its functions without being touched. It's rather reminiscent of the early concept adds for Google Glass that didn't seem to require any input beyond voice commands. The key words here seem to be Ok Google Now instead of Ok Glass, but the idea is the same.

The phone's lock screen will also show some information about notifications (text/email/etc...) without needing to be swiped or touched. A wrist twist is also enough to launch the camera, further reducing the need to unlock the device.

Early rumors of a user customizable Moto X available in a wide array of colors seems to have been wrong as well. Rogers will be offering the phone in either black or white. The Moto X is expected to be available in August. Availability in other countries and prices have not yet been announced.
