Google Experience becomes Google Now

Google released an update to Android 4.4 KitKat earlier this week and it seems the Nexus 5-exclusive launcher just got a new name. Previously known as "Google Experience," this part of the Android operating system is now called "Google Now" and there is no surprise to see it coming with the notorious Google Now intelligent personal assistant built-in, as they actually share the same name. 

The Google Now launcher is powered by Google Search and can be easily accessed with a swipe from the left. While Google did not issue any official statement regarding this change so far, this new launcher is already capable to import icons and folders from the old stock one, as well as from various third-party launchers such as Nova Launcher or ADW. The introduction of this feature shows that extended hardware support for the new Google Now launcher could follow soon, it could even make it onto the Play Store.

More adventurous users can install this new launcher manually on their devices already but what really matters is that Google may soon offer it as the default launcher for everyone. Unfortunately, remains to be seen if and when will this happen. For now, the product is still in an early stage and lacks the customization options offered by the third-party launchers it will eventually aim to replace.
