When semiconductor company ZiiLabs revealed its tablet CPU plans earlier this May, the spec list of its upcoming dual-core and quad-core ZMS-20 and ZMS-40 processors read like speed demons. Now, the Creative Technology subsidiary has announced a family of new reference tablets that will incorporate the new ZMS series of StemCell processors.
Dubbed the Jaguar tablets, these reference devices will run Android 3.x and will be made available to OEMs for in-house customization, review, and production purposes. So far, two units in the Jaguar series have been announced, which are the 7-inch model and a 10-inch model. The former will sport a 1024x600 resolution screen while the latter will come with a screen of 1280x800 pixels. Each will carry 5MP rear cameras and HD front cameras with GPS, 3G/4G options, HDMI 1.4, up to 64GB SSD, 1GB LPDDR2 RAM, and Bluetooth capabilities.
While major manufacturers have yet to announce when we can see tablets based on the new high-end ZMS processors, ZiiLabs will be having the Jaguar tablets on display at Computex 2011 later this week. When released, we expect these tablet CPU newcomers to give Nvidia’s Kal-El a run for its money.
