We have been hearing about the latest Visio toy for some time now. The 8” tablet was first showed off during the Rose Bowl commercial just before this year’s CES. Then it showed up on the Wal-Mart inventory list and gave every signs of getting here in June. But it got postponed for some reason. Now atleast two retailers have started taking orders of the VTA1008 - Amazon and Walmart for $298.
The Vizio’s VTAB1008 sports a 1GHz processor (possibly a VIA), 8” high resolution 1024 x 768 touch screen, 512MB RAM, Android 2.3, 4GB of built-in storage which is expandable with additional 32GB via Micro SD card slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections, a front-facing VGA camera, and access to Android market. The in-house V.I.A (Vizio Internet Apps) Plus interface on 1024×768 promises to give you a better experience than that of the stock Gingerbread.
The tablet has a high multimedia IQ as well, with SRS TruMedia audio, and three built-in speakers specially placed for stereo experience in both portrait and landscape mode – as reported by Laptoping. There are also mini-HDMI output, built-in Infra-Red blaster for remote control of TVs and other consumer electronics devices. According to the company, the remote app covers “95% of CE devices in the US market”.
The battery promises up to 10 hrs of moderate use.
