Upcoming LG Optimus Pad could cost up to $700

Online retail site preemptively lists price of the upcoming tablet

Unfortunately, brand name tablets seem to be quite comfortable hovering well above the $500 mark and into the $600 or even the $800 category. Currently, the LG Optimus Pad (also known as the T-Mobile G Slate in the U.S.) is being listed for a pre-order price of $700 on the retail site mobilecityonline. At the Cebit 2011 LG stated a suggested retail price of 899 Euros ($1247) without any contract. However, usually the retail prices will be significantly lower.

The suggested $700 price point on mobilecityonline would be $100 less than the Motorola Xoom, which the Optimus Pad will be competing directly against.

The 8.9-inch LG Optimus Pad will be tied to the cellular carrier T-Mobile when released in United States. The slate will be running Android 3.0 at 1280x768 resolution with an Nvidia 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, include 32GB SSD, 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity, 1.3MP camera and Flash 10.1 support. Most distinctive, however, will be its 3D-ready display. Users can view 3D content and record 3D video with its dual 5MP rear camera. While the experience will require special viewing glasses, the capability alone could give the tablet the boost it needs for LG to overcome the Xoom.

A May launch window of the Optimus Pad is expected for Europe, but U.S. customers will have to wait for further announcements.
