Reviews for the Toshiba Satellite U200

I am very happy with my purchase of the U200. I have no regrets about getting this unit and not choosing one of the other systems I looked at. The only one thing I would have changed was the fact that the only processor available was the T2250. I just wish Toshiba would offer us Canadians the ability to build our own systems. Speed and performance freaks won’t find the U200 fast enough but for the average user looking for an ultra-portable notebook I would not hesitate to recommend the U200-PT7.

Overall, I'm very impressed with this laptop. It is great for me to carry around, take on flights or to school everyday. It's a great laptop for business but also has a lot of consumer oriented features. The widescreen is great for viewing worksheets side-by-side or watching movies. The fingerprint reader provides extra security for the business user. I'd recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a notebook that is very durable, light and powerful. It's not too expensive price makes it a good option for the business user or student, looking for portability, durability, and performance, but not gaming.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is an integrated (onboard) graphic chip on Mobile Intel 945GM chipset. It is a faster clocked version of the GMA 900 and supports no hardware T&L (Transform & Lightning) accelleration (which is required for some games).
These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.

Intel Core Duo: Double Core processor with a very good relation of performance to current consumption. The 2 MB L2 Cache are used together by the double. The maximum capacity of 31 watts is only 4 watts more than with the Pentium M (predecessor). Both cores are lowered automatically and independently of each other by speed steps down to 1 GHz. In addition it now supports also SSE3 instructions. At least it is just as fast as a equivalent Pentium M. With applications, which were designed for multi-processors, the performance can be nearly twice as fast as with the Pentium M (e.g. CineBench around 86% fast)

This range of display format is largely the upper limit for tablets and the lower limit for subnotebooks.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small in size and therefore easily portable. The tiny display has the added advantage of requiring little power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is exhausting for the eyes. High resolutions, which one is used to from a standard laptop, are almost not usable.
The same applies to tablets in this size range.
