This SFF PC packs up to 192 GB RAM and desktop-class 24-core CPUs

Shuttle has introduced a new compact SFF PC with support for Intel's Arrow Lake-S desktop-class processors. Coming in at just 13 liters, the XPC Cube SB860R8 aims to function as a high-end workstation-class system without taking up a whole lot of space.
XPC Cube: SFF PC with plenty of performance and connectivity
Unlike mini PCs which have to deal with a whole bunch of space and thermal constraints, the XPC Cube SB860R8 SFF PC features support for desktop-class processors, as mentioned earlier. To be precise, the system features the LGA1851 socket which supports high-end Intel ARL-S CPUs such as the Core Ultra 9 285K (currently ~$564 on Amazon).
Similar to other compact desktop systems from Shuttle which we have previously covered, overclocking support is absent. In simpler terms, Arrow Lake-S CPUs with the K suffix, while supported, will not be able to fully stretch their legs in the system.

Memory requirements are taken care of by a total of four 288-pin UDIMM slots. This allows support for up to a whopping 192 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM.
Given the amount of internal space on offer, the XPC Cube SFF PC houses a single PCIe x16 Gen 5 and a single PCIe x4 Gen 4 slot. Needless to say, discrete GPUs can be fitted, albeit only those that are dual-slot and up to a maximum of 280 mm in length.
The I/O on offer is excellent, which is to be expected from an SFF PC that is intended for hobbyist and industrial use. The detailed list can be found below.
- Four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, dual USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Type-A, Type-C)
- Four USB 2.0 Type-A
- HDMI 2.1, HDMI 2.0b, dual DisplayPort 1.4b
- Dual 2.5G Ethernet
- RS232 header (internal)
A plethora of storage options are also present on board the XPC Cube. A total of four 3.5" SATA drive bays are present, as well as dual M.2 2280 slots for SSDs. A single M.2 2230 slot is also present for wireless networking capabilities.
Pricing and availability
Like most of Shuttle's products aimed at hobbyist and enterprise use, pricing details are under wraps and are likely to depend on order volume. To know more about the XPC Cube SB860R8 SFF workstation PC, interested customers are requested to head over to Shuttle's official product page.
