Tesla teases 200 mph+ Model S Plaid Track Package with ceramic brakes for US$20,000 releasing later in 2023
The latest news in Tesla's uphill battle towards the Model S Plaid's ultimate form comes to us by way of a Twitter teaser video from Tesla itself. The video shows the Model S Plaid accelerating past the 322 kph (201 mph) mark before the screen cuts to black. Tesla previously announced that it would be releasing a set of US$20,000 carbon ceramic brakes that would allow the vehicle to reach Tesla's goals early in 2023, but the new Track Package seems to be taking its place now.
Tesla originally announced the Model S Plaid as having a top speed of 200 mph (320 kph), but when the vehicle ultimately arrived, it fell short of those lofty goals — something of a tradition for Tesla, at this point. An updated Track Mode would later boost the Model S Plaid's top speed further, to a maximum 175 mph (~281 kph) — still not quite the 200 mph goal. The Model S Plaid Track Package unlocks the vehicle's 1,000 hp performance by increasing stability and maximising cornering force. In line with the previously announced carbon ceramic brake kit, the Model S Plaid Track Package will cost between US$15,000 and US$20,000, but it features a lot more than simply a brake upgrade.
Purchasing the Model S Plaid Track Package will get you a set of handsome ten-spoke aluminium forged wheels, an upgrade to track tires and brake fluid, carbon ceramic brake discs, and one-piece brake calipers with high-performance brake pads. The Model S Plaid Track Package will be available for purchase in June 2023.
