Tesla electric vehicles proved to be some of the most efficient in terms of power draw again, regardless of the weather outside. The Model S managed to notch just a 20% range drop from freezing temps in the winter to the EV-perfect weather test.

After notching a winter win, the Tesla Model S LR managed to beat both the summer range record and its own official EPA range estimate. Driving on the Norwegian country roads for the demanding range test of the local Motor magazine, the Model S battery died after covering the whopping 417 miles (672 km) on a charge. For comparison, its official EPA estimate is 405 miles and that's the most stringent measurement standard so far.

Motor's real-life range test is done both in the winter when temperatures are below freezing, and now in the summer when they range between 59-68°F or 15-20 Celsius, nearly ideal conditions. This winter, the Model S covered 530 km (329 miles) of the itinerary before it gave up the ghost. It demonstrated only about 20% of range loss in cold weather which also makes the Tesla one of the most efficient electric vehicles around as many a range comparisons have attested to so far.

As for the runner-up in the summer EV range test, that award went to the Polestar 2, but it finished a distant second with 374 miles covered, below its actual specs. Other electric vehicles in the test that managed to beat their own range estimates were the NIO ET5 and Nissan Ariya, while the premium XPeng G9 SUV took the cake by surpassing its own range specs by the whopping 13%.

Granted, the range on a charge depends on the battery capacity, and the Model S has a big 100 kWh battery pack. It, however, also proved extremely efficient with a very modest 14.4 kWh power draw that only a few AWD models in the tested pack managed to match or beat.
