Amazon has once again dropped the price of the Sony HT-S2000 compact soundbar to $298, a savings of 40 percent off the MSRP of $499.99. Although the same price drop occurs frequently enough not to be notable, what stands out is the ability to expand this 3.1-channel Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundbar into a full-fledged, surround sound system as budget allows.
The soundbar uses 50 watts to power three front speakers and a center channel designed for clear dialogue, along with dual subwoofers for enhanced bass. The soundbar can auto-pair with the optional Sony SA-SW3 or SA-SW5 subwoofers, and the SA-RS3S rear speakers to expand its surround sound and bass reproduction capabilities.
Owners can connect their TVs or audio sources using the optical audio in or HDMI eARC ports, and the HT-S2000 can be used as a wireless Bluetooth 5.2 speaker for music playback from smartphones and laptops. A smartphone or the included remote control can be used to select tracks and change settings.
The soundbar can also play music from a USB flash drive while the Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) restores lost high-frequency elements in compressed sound files for higher-quality sound reproduction.
The compact soundbar measures 31 1/2 × 2 5/8 × 5 in. (800 X 64 X 124 mm) and weighs 8 lb. 3 oz. (3.7 kg).
