Samsung to unveil Chrome OS netbook come May 11th

Teaser
Samsung will be holding its own separate event during the same night as the Google I/O conference to unveil exclusive “mobile PC news”

After initial leaks of the SamsungAlexChrome OS netbook, eWEEK can now confirm that its official reveal will be made next week on May 11th in San Francisco.

Perhaps most interestingly, the Samsung Chrome OS netbook will be making its premier “following the conclusion of Google I/O” in a different location than the Google conference. Whereas the I/O conference will be held at the Moscone Center, the Samsung event will be further away from downtown in the Contemporary Jewish Museum. Exactly why there is a separate event to debut the Chrome OS netbook is unknown, but Samsung has confirmed to eWEEK that the public can expect plenty of “mobile PC news” during the event, in addition to the Chrome OS netbook.

As previously reported, the 12.1-inch Samsung “Alex” will supposedly run a 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 processor with 2GB RAM, SSD, Qualcomm Gobi 2000 3G card, and Wi-Fi, which are common features for a netbook this size. While the retail price is still a mystery, Google could decide to offer the Samsung netbook on an unconventional subscription basis.

With Google I/O and the Samsung event taking place on the same night next week, expect a healthy amount of updates and details regarding the official release of Chrome OS notebooks.
