Samsung shuts down rumours about custom CPU core development

A recent report from Korean media outlets highlighted Samsung's plans to restart the development of custom CPU cores. While that seemed like a logical step after establishing an MX department for smartphone SoC development, Samsung has shut down said rumours via a statement issued to Android Police which reads:

A recent media report that Samsung has established an internal team dedicated to CPU core development is not true. Contrary to the news, we have long had multiple internal teams responsible for CPU development and optimization, while constantly recruiting global talents from relevant fields.

On the flip side, OEMs are known to deny the existence of certain high-profile products only to confirm them later. Samsung probably wants to silence any rumours about the topic before they get out of hand. Besides, the CPU cores in question aren't scheduled to launch until 2027, so the company will have plenty of time to unveil them properly.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm and Nuvia's custom Oryon CPU cores are tipped to launch in 2025. On the other hand, Samsung plans to unveil its brand new Galaxy-exclusive chip in the same year. Furthermore, there are several rumours about a 10-core Exynos 2400 in the pipeline. It is expected to debut sometime in 2024 alongside the Galaxy S24 series.
