Samsung brings a solar-powered netbook to USA

Teaser
The Samsung NC215S can be charged using the solar panel attached to the top lid

Samsung has been foraying into previously unknown areas as far as computers are concerned. Just a couple of months ago, we had one of the first Chromebooks from the company, and now there is a solar-powered model called NC215S heading towards US. It is already available in Russia at the moment.

The unique thing about this netbook is the top lid that works as a solar panel. It gives the netbook one hour of additional battery life with two hours of solar charging. But apart from that, it looks like a usual machine with a 10.1” display screen (1024 x 600 pixels), a dual core Intel Atom N570 CPU clocking at 1.66GHz and 1GB RAM.

A matte display will ensure that the surface does not get many fingerprints. The keyboard stresses on both sides till the edges to give you more real estate to type on. The I/O ports include USB ports, mic and microphone jacks, VGA out and other usual connectivity options.

Exact date of release is not known, neither the pricing. But let’s hope the NC215S adds a little bit of spice in the already dwindling netbook market.
