Need a laptop that can be used for entertainment purposes as well as boring old office work? Samsung's RF511 is relatively inexpensive, yet it packs a lot of speed and good features. For just over $1000 (if you shop around), you get an Intel Core i7 CPU as well as a Blu-ray drive. We think it's a great laptop for anyone who wants to be entertained as well as do serious work.

With a street price of just around $900, the Samsung RF511-S02 is a very affordable laptop that comes with the new Core i7 quad core processor that is great for those who multitask. The graphics of the system are also quite capable for those looking to do some PC gaming on the side. There are some quirks with the system that can be annoying to various users.

Quad all-rounder. Samsung responds to the high demand on the previous model, RF510, with a revision called RF511. Graphics and processor performance have been upgraded to a quad core and Fermi. The perfect all-rounder?

A distinctive look and feel, but not nearly enough to justify the price.

Physically, the RF511 is distinctly middle of the road. It's got the look of an office laptop, only with a conservative mesh of platinum coloured keys and borders. Put simply, it looks very old-fashioned, and could soon look even more so, once the first ultrabooks start trickle onto the market in 2012. That said, its functional – if occasionally flimsy – design and inclusion of Bluetooth 3.0 and USB 3.0 will attract buyers. The three-hour battery life is nothing special, where the use of a WXGA panel puts it further behind the curve for advanced users.

Samsung: Samsung Group is the largest South Korean conglomerate and was founded in 1938. Samsung Group employed 489,000 people in 2014 and is one of the world's largest companies in terms of revenue and market strength. The name Samsung means "Three Stars" in Korean and represents the three sons of the company's founder. The company was founded in 1938 as a grocery store. With its subsidiary Samsung Electronics, founded in 1969, Samsung took up the production of electrotechnical items, focusing on consumer electronics and household appliances at an early stage. Other branches in which the large corporation is active include mechanical engineering, automobiles (Hyundai), insurance, wholesale, real estate and leisure. Samsung manufactures a wide range of electronic products, including smartphones, televisions, home appliances and semiconductors. The company's Galaxy line of smartphones is one of the most popular in the world. Samsung is also a major player in the semiconductor industry, making memory chips and processors for many other electronics manufacturers.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M:
Mid-range graphics card based on the GT 435M chip (GF108) with higher clock rates and DDR3 support.

Intel Core i3:
2310M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.1 GHz and features the Turbo Boost 2.0 only for the graphics card (650/1100MHz).
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
2630QM: Fast Quad-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
Intel Core i5:
2520M: Dual-core Sandy Bridge processor with integrated graphics and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
2430M: Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.4 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.7-3 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).

2.562 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
2.6 kg:
77.38%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
