A competent machine that trades snazzy design for a bit more durability.

A perfectly good netbook, the NB30 just doesn't do enough to justify the extra outlay over its near identical sibling, the N210.

The NB30 may only be semi-tough, but the enhancements should pay dividends in a life of rough and tumble. Like all Samsung netbooks it is well specified, well made and good looking and though the touchscreen won't keep Apple's engineers awake at night it still has its uses.

Thee Samsung NB30 is essentially a Samsung N210 with a subtly different case finish and an accelerometer. Battery life was a little longer on this sample though, easily breaking the magical 10 hours barrier.

Another day, another Netbook. Though iPads, tablets, and other laptops keep forging on with technological innovations, the stalwart, cheap Netbook remains largely the same generation after generation. The Samsung NB30 is a new iteration on a standard Netbook theme, with a few slightly ruggedized features that don't quite justify the inflated price.

The $379 Samsung NB30 is a good choice for consumers who want the peace of mind a semi-rugged netbook offers but want to keep the budget under $400 (in contrast, an HP Mini 5102 with just 1GB of RAM and a four-cell battery costs $415). Well suited for an older child or a frequent traveler, the NB30 can handle the basics and even a little multimedia. However, if ruggedness isn’t a key need, the NB30 doesn’t quite stand up to the competition. You can get better performance with the Samsung N210 or MSI Wind U160 for the same price, while the Gateway LT2118U and ASUS Eee PC 1001P (both of which last over 2 hours longer on a charge) run for $30 to $80 less. Still, semi-ruggedness at this price is a good deal.

Carving a unique niche in this chaotic netbook market is almost impossible these days, but you have to give Samsung credit for trying. The company has come out with the Samsung NB30 ($340 street), which it's peddling as a ruggedized netbook. Though it's not meant to sustain 3 foot drops and underwater dives, the NB30 has a hard drive sensor, a scratch-proof lid, and a spill-resistant frame (up to 2 ounces of liquid). Everything else in between—from components to performance—is like that of every other netbook.

At first glance, the Samsung NB30 looks like virtually every other netbook released in the last 4 months. But it has a few special features which really do make it stand out including the scratch-resistant case, and spill-resistant keyboard which can handle up to 50cc of water as long as it’s wiped clean within about 10 seconds.

We like the plain styling and love the long battery life, but it’s a shame that Samsung didn’t go the extra mile to make the NB30 really rugged. Even so, the Windows XP model is still a great buy.

Making a stand in an overcrowded netbook market is getting increasingly difficult. Back in 2007 it was common opinion that netbooks were low cost and defined by a lack of features and specifications. The NB30 is as beautifully crafted as it is robust, and has brilliant battery performance. It offers excellent value for money because it's built to last and copes with most tasks you can throw at it, as long as you don't expect high–end number crunching. Our only caveat is the added height from the battery.

This netbook is a rugged customer, making it perfect for the kids. Samsung's netbook range has always impressed us, and the NB30, boasting semi-ruggedised features, is no different. It's ideal if you're looking to buy a machine for your child or simply want greater protection for your data. We like what the NB30 has to offer. The semi-rugged features are still relatively rare on a netbook, and will prove to be a real selling point for many.

Touch-Netbook.This 10-inch touch screen equipped Netbook should make the work of professionals easier: special uses such as stock keeping or on-site data acquisition are navigable at the touch of a finger. We test whether the Touch-Mini lives up to its name.

Samsung: Samsung Group is the largest South Korean conglomerate and was founded in 1938. Samsung Group employed 489,000 people in 2014 and is one of the world's largest companies in terms of revenue and market strength. The name Samsung means "Three Stars" in Korean and represents the three sons of the company's founder. The company was founded in 1938 as a grocery store. With its subsidiary Samsung Electronics, founded in 1969, Samsung took up the production of electrotechnical items, focusing on consumer electronics and household appliances at an early stage. Other branches in which the large corporation is active include mechanical engineering, automobiles (Hyundai), insurance, wholesale, real estate and leisure. Samsung manufactures a wide range of electronic products, including smartphones, televisions, home appliances and semiconductors. The company's Galaxy line of smartphones is one of the most popular in the world. Samsung is also a major player in the semiconductor industry, making memory chips and processors for many other electronics manufacturers.
These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is an integrated (onboard) graphic chip on Mobile Intel 945GM chipset. It is a faster clocked version of the GMA 900 and supports no hardware T&L (Transform & Lightning) accelleration (which is required for some games).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Integrated (shared memory) graphics card in the intel Atom N4xx CPUs. Minimally faster than an old GMA 950 and therefore not suited for 3D games or HD videos (only MPEG2 acceleration).
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).
N450:
Intel Atom CPU for Netbooks with integrated memory controller and GMA 3150 GPU. The performance of the system should be only minimally faster than the previous Atom N280 / GMA 950 combination.

79.5%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
