Research in Motion appoints new COO and CMO

Kristian Tear appointed as chief operating officer, Frank Boulben as cheif marketing officer

Research in Motion has run into tough times over the past year, and they’re shaking up the company hierarchy in an attempt to get things rolling again.

In a press release today, the BlackBerry maker announced that Kristian Tear would be taking over as chief operating officer (COO) and Frank Boulben as chief marketing officer (CMO). Mr. Tear comes over from Sony Mobile Communications where he served as Executive Vice President, while Mr. Boulben was previously employed by the 4G LTE provider, LightSquared.

In the press release, RIM’s president and CEO Thorsten Heins commented that “Kristian and Frank bring extensive knowledge of the rapidly changing wireless global market and will help RIM as we sharpen our focus on delivering long-term value to our stakeholders”. Combined, both executives provide over 45 years of experience in the wireless industry and should help Research in Motion right the ship again.
