The Razer Blade 15 is a powerful computer that will allow you to play both current and future games with all the graphical bells and whistles. It's not exactly the most portable hardware you can buy, nor the cheapest, but if you want a semi-upgradeable gaming laptop with RTX-powered graphics today, it's a worthwhile buy.

The Razer Blade 15 (2021) isn’t the most exciting gaming laptop to arrive this year, featuring a near-identical design to its predecessors. This makes it a hard sell to anyone who’s upgraded their mobile gaming rig in the past year or two. But under the hood, there’s no denying it's one of the most powerful gaming notebooks on the market, and a solid option for any player with cash to burn.

Reviewing the Razer Blade 15 Base Edition (2021) was like going on a roller coaster ride -- there are a lot of ups and downs. You’re getting solid graphics performance, a colorful and sharp display as well as a satisfying glass touchpad. However, you’re also stuck with below-average CPU performance, a panel that's as dim as a budget machine’s, and a keyboard that’s too squishy.

None of the Razer Blade 15 models are inexpensive, with the most basic model starting at $1700. There are far less expensive gaming notebooks, especially the Clevo rebrands, which may offer more performance per dollar. But as with any premium device, the other components are where the Razer Blade shines. The build. The styling. The looks. The Razer Blade 15 offers all of that, plus the performance of a RTX 30-Series. Who could ask for more?

The Blade 15 is a competent, well-designed gaming laptop that first-time buyers will adore for many reasons. This particular configuration is noteworthy as the first Base with a luscious QHD display, and with it, the RTX 3070 performs well for both gaming and productivity. The lack of biometrics and an SD card reader might be bothersome for some, though, since the step-up Advanced model has both. Beyond that, it’s tough to give the Blade 15 Base a pass again when it’s getting easier to find other similarly priced thin and light gaming laptops with just as many features and sleek designs.

The Razer Blade 15 Advanced does exactly what you’d expect a Razer laptop to do. It looks great, offers plenty of ports and runs games beautifully. It’s also as expensive as you’d expect a Razer laptop to be; you could easily spend $3,000 on a higher-end model.

Lightweight, pretty and powerful. Those are the basic hallmarks of a Razer Blade. The latest iteration of the $2,999 Blade 15 Advanced Model raises the bar with a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 (11th Gen coming soon!) and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 GPU. It’s the epitome of a portable powerhouse, plus you got that beautiful Chroma keyboard and a display with a fast refresh rate. Razer’s even providing gamers with a measure of security.

For the fingerprint-resistant coating — look, this laptop still collects your fingerprints. Though, I realized it was an improvement when I didn’t yell the same “wow, I barely touched this thing and it’s filthy” that I usually do shortly after I unbox a black Razer laptop. But if you’re a clean freak, you’ll probably still find enough smudging to warrant giving it a wipe every couple of days. This particular Blade 15 Advanced stands out from Razer’s other models, including some competing gaming laptops, because of how thin it is. Its thickness is an asset, but also a major downside when it comes to keeping cool. Gaming on it isn’t a problem, unless you actually want to comfortably use it on your lap.

The new Razer Blade 15 Advanced is again one of the better choices as far as having a lot of power in the thinnest and lightest package. Both the 3060 and 3080 units that I tested performed very well, with perhaps an added bonus to the 3060 model, which is thinner and more affordable. For me, though, I’d probably aim for the RTX 3070 model, as I think it has the most value. We'll get in-depth on all the novelties of this mid-2021 generation in the detailed review down below.

The Razer Blade 15 is still one of the nicest laptops on the market, bring luxurious design and excellent performance. However the high price tag and relatively short battery life hold it back from perfection. At this point, the Razer Blade 15 is extremely familiar. Year after year, Razer improves on its classic gaming laptop design, putting the latest and greatest hardware in it and the 2021 version is no different.

Briefer battery life aside, this is a welcome update to the perennial-favorite Razer Blade 15. A new processor adds a bit of pep, there are a load of fast and sharp display options, the webcam is improved, and unsightly finger smudges are greatly reduced. Otherwise, the Blade 15 is the same great-performing and still highly portable gaming flagship we've praised plenty over the years. The diminished battery life hurts and the price remains lofty, but this is a premium product going up against premium competitors. This relatively minor refresh isn't quite worthy of an Editors' Choice award as the first 2021 model was, but it's still one of the best and most portable high-end gaming laptops available.

A premium laptop should look premium (check) feel premium (check) and perform its socks off (big check). Razer may not have revised the looks of the Blade, but that's a good thing: it was unfussy and handsome to begin with, with enough physical strength to hopefully ensure it'll last a long time. The work Razer has done on the insides of the Blade 15 Advanced, both to ensure that ridiculous performance and to stop those high-end components from cooking themselves, has been an unqualified success. This is a fantastic machine if you can afford it. The good news is that even if you can't quite find it in you to shell out three grand on a single laptop, the lower models in the Blade 15 range will still offer entirely acceptable performance for less cash - and everything else on the market with comparable specs will cost you just as much if not more.
