AMD Ryzen 5 7235HS vs AMD Ryzen Z2 Go

AMD Ryzen 5 7235HS

► remove from comparison AMD R5 7235HS

The AMD Ryzen 5 7235HS is a mobile processor for rather large notebooks (e.g. gaming laptops) based on the Rembrandt Refresh generation. The SoC contains four Zen 3+ cores (quad-core CPU) which are clocked from 3.2 GHz (guaranteed base clock) up to 4.2 GHz (turbo) and support SMT / Hyperthreading (8 threads). The chip is manufactured in the (at the time of release) modern 6nm process at TSMC and was presented at the beginning of 2023.

The performance is limited by the only 4 cores and reaches the level of a Core i7-1185G7 or Ryzen 5 4600U. The single-core performance is better in comparison and at the level of a Ryzen 5600U or the i7-1185G7 again. However, these estimates are still only based on a Geekbench 5.5 benchmark of a Lenovo LOQ 15ARP9.

The Rembrandt APUs offer some of the latest features, such as support for USB4 with 40 Gbps, PCI-E Gen 4 and DDR5-4800MT/s or LPDDR5-6400MT/s.

The Ryzen 5 7235HS does not integrate a graphics card (iGPU).

The TDP is specified at 35 - 54 watts, making the CPU also suitable for thinner (gaming) notebooks.

AMD Ryzen Z2 Go

► remove from comparison AMD Z2 Go

The AMD Ryzen Z2 Go is a processor for cheap handhelds based of the Rembrandt refresh generation. The Ryzen packs four of the eight cores based on the Zen 3+ microarchitecture. They are clocked at 3 (guaranteed base clock) to 4.3 GHz (single core boost) and support SMT / Hyperthreading (8 threads). The Ryzen Z2 Go is based on the same chip as the old AMD Ryzen 7335U, but with a faster iGPU with all 12 CUs (Radeon 680M, clock speed not currently known).

The Zen 3+ is a refresh of the Zen 3 architecture and should not offer a lot of changes. The chip offers modern features, like support for USB 4 (40 Gbps), PCI-E Gen 4 and DDR5-4800MT/s or LPDDR5-6400MT/s.

The performance should be clearly better than the old Ryzen 3 5300U and Ryzen 3 5425U due to the higher clock speed and improved architecture. The similar named other Ryzen Z2 chips, are based on newer chips and therefore clearly faster and more energy efficient.

The Ryzen Z2 Go is manufactured in 6nm FinFET at TSMC and specified at a TDP of 28W (15 - 30 Watt configurable).
