The Intel Core i7-13700K is rumored to be a 16-core chip that is bringing a meaningful performance boost over 12th gen parts. Thanks to an anonymous tip made to VideoCardz, we now have a hint about the overclocking potential and the resulting performance uplift of the 13th gen Core i7.

Intel’s 13th gen “Raptor Lake” processors are rumored to offer a healthy performance boost over the 12th gen “Alder Lake” CPUs. For instance, a leaked Geekbench entry showed the Core i9-13900K beating the Core i9-12900KS in single-core and competing with the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X in multi-core performance.

VideoCardz has now received pictures depicting the performance of the Core i7-13700K when overclocked from an anonymous source. The images show the chip running the CPU-Z benchmark in two frequency configurations.

In the first CPU-Z test, the 8 E-cores of the Core i7-13700K were disabled and the 8 P-cores were overclocked to 6 GHz. The benchmark returned a single-core score of 983 and a multi-core result of 7814. As a comparison, the Core i9-13900K running a 5.5 GHz frequency on all P-cores managed a single-threaded score of 892.

In the second test, after decreasing the frequency of the P-cores on the Core i7-13700K to 5.8 GHz and clocking the E-cores to 3.7 GHz, the CPU lost a little performance and scored 947. However, because the E-cores were enabled this time, the multi-threaded performance numbers shot up to 12896.

VideoCardz has pointed out that the single-core score posted by the Core i7-13700K while operating at 6 GHz is 10% more than the Core i9-13900K (5.5 GHz on P-cores) and 16% more than the Core i9-12900K (5.2 GHz on P-cores).

Finally, Twitter user @esperonslaie has also posted a video showcasing a Core i7-13700K running the CPU-Z benchmark operating at 5.9 GHz. It is interesting to see that the chip, even when overclocked to such a high clock speed, heated up to only 85°C during the test. The video appears to be from the same source as earlier images.

It is pertinent to mention that the comparisons are based on leaked scores of the Core i9-13900K and not retail hardware. So, take these numbers with a grain of salt.
