Nissan’s 2026 Leaf debuts with a katana-inspired design, electrochromic roof, and dual 14.3-inch displays with Google Assistant, Maps, and Play Store. The EV offers up to 303 miles of range, NACS and J1772 fast charging, and vehicle-to-load capability to power 120V appliances for car camping.

Nissan has unveiled the next-generation 2026 Nissan Leaf electric vehicle using a katana-blade design concept from the Nissan Z sports car, electrochromic panoramic roof, and dual 14.3-inch displays with integrated Google services.

The Leaf has a 303 mile (488 km) (S+ grade), 288 mi. (463 km) (SV+ grade), or 256 mi. (412 km) (Platinum+ grade) range thanks to a lower 0.26 drag coefficient and flush door handles. The S+, SV+, and Platinum+ grades are powered by a 160 kW motor producing 214 HP and 261 lb-ft torque, coupled with a 75 kWh liquid-cooled battery pack. The S grade uses a 130 kW motor producing 174 HP, 254 lb-ft torque, coupled with a 52 kWh battery.

The car can be recharged from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes using NACS or J1772 fast chargers. The battery is protected from low winter temperatures by a heat-retaining resin cover and waste heat recovery system, as well as an optional battery heater. All Leaf EVs have vehicle-to-load capability (V2L), providing up to 1,500 W of 120 V AC power to run hair dryers, TVs, and other appliances while car camping, while an optional electrochromic panoramic roof provides views of the stars above.

Owners can find chargers and pay using the Nissan Energy Charge Network from the MyNissan app. Google Assistant, Maps, and Play Store are integrated into the SV+ and Platinum+ grade displays along with Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and SirusXM 360. Google Maps has the ability to create routes with automatically identified charging stops so the Leaf can arrive with the desired charge level remaining.

The S and S+ grades use 12.3-inch displays offering only Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone app mirroring, along with Amazon Alexa and Sirus XM 360. All models have integrated 5G NissanConnect to enable features such as remote door locking using a smartphone.

The lower grades have two front USB-C ports for smartphone charging, while the higher grades add two rear ports and one wireless charger. The Platinum+ grade comes with a 10-speaker Bose Personal Plus sound system that includes front headrest speakers for immersive sound. The other grades come with four or six-speaker sound systems.

The displays provide a 360-degree view while parking and backing up thanks to the 3D Intelligent Around View Monitor cameras. Additional safety is provided during driving by the ProPILOT Assist that keeps the car centered in lanes and automatically maintains a set distance to the car ahead in stop-and-go traffic. Nissan Safety Shield 360 technologies help the driver from hitting pedestrians and cars when backing up or entering intersections.

The 2026 Nissan Leaf is scheduled to arrive this fall. Pricing has not been announced. Readers who collect Matchboxes can add the Leaf to their collection.
