It looks like the global pandemic is not affecting Samsung’s release schedules too much this year, so we should be seeing the Note 20 and the Galaxy Fold 2 hit the market some time in August. Korean publication ETNews reports that Samsung is currently planning to begin component production for the Galaxy Fold 2 by mid-May, while mass-production for the handhelds is scheduled for June-July.
ETNews also informs that the folding screen now measures around 8 inches (previous rumors were claiming 7.7 inches versus 7.3 inch on the original). Another Korean source from the Naver blogs informs that, even though the Fold 2 will have larger internal and external screens, the total weight of the device is supposed to be reduced to around 230 grams from 263 grams. The same source also points out that the S-Pen support will not be featured on the Fold 2. Additionally, Samsung wants to release the new Fold in Martian Green and Astro Blue colors, but this could vary from region to region.
As far as pricing is concerned, the more affordable 256 GB Fold 2 model we have heard of in previous rumors appears to be a necessary market adjustment, as Samsung predicts its 2H 2020 sales volume could drop to 65% of the 1H 2020 volume, and this could also lead to reduced prices for the Note 20, as well as for the upcoming Galaxy S21-series.
