Mobile solar system for charging EVs without a charging station presented
Patience is still required. The "EV Solar Charger" from GoSun will not actually be available to buy until 2025. Only a reservation for customers in the USA is currently possible.
However, this does not make the device any less interesting, which at least looks quite mature in the product photos and presentation videos.
The entire system is stored in a flat roof box that weighs 32 kilograms (70 lbs). It should therefore be compatible with the vast majority of roof racks. A solar module on the lid is always active. In addition, four cells can be folded out to the front and rear - only when parked, of course.
While 200 watts of power can be achieved when folded up, the entire surface has a maximum value of 1,200 watts. However, it will hardly be possible to achieve an ideal alignment of all solar modules, so you should plan for 600 to 800 watts.
Nevertheless, over the course of a sunny summer's day, this means that 8 kilowatt hours can be collected. An electric car that is not too power-hungry can cover 50 kilometers (30 miles) with this much power.

Price seems realistic
The charging station for your own car roof therefore seems particularly useful for regular use, as recharging an empty car battery would require a lot of patience. Ten sunny days would be enough to restore a range of several hundred kilometers at battery.
The price is quoted at $3,000 dollars. In view of the various subsidy programs and tax benefits for solar modules, it is difficult to estimate how high the final price will be.
If you take the predicted 8 kilowatt hours from a charging point at typical $0.25, the solar charging station only needs to be fully used for just about 1,500 days to be worthwhile. And you have your own range extender with all the time.
GoSun also has some other interesting solar energy gadgets on offer. If you don't want to wait, you can try out the Chill Solartable or a solar stove, for example.
